Is anyone following the Wahls Protocol Diet? I was recently diagnosed with RRMS and I'm curious to hear your experience and results. Thank you!

hi. I have no experience with the Wahls diet. I am trying out this anti inflammatory diet. I. Ordered two cook books online. I have also found recipes online from the Mediterranean diet. My 15 yr old daughter says it’s too bland, I disagree! I have to eat to live, not live to eat. So that’s what I’m trying to do!

It doesn’t help that I’m a picky eater. lol

My family has had the recipes in her book this week, and they are very good! But I'm the same way - I can eat anything. Just don't get me hangry!

Welcome! I believe we have a few members that do, and you can search the forum posts for that.

Hi and welcome! I followed Whal’s protocol for about 6-8 months. I did feel better, but was also exercising (could’ve been a combo of both). I found it very difficult and exhausting to follow after a while. I had a toddler at the time and my husband wasn’t thrilled about the food. I’d have to cook 2 meals and prep all the veggies…it was too much! I still loosely follow the diet. Getting enough exercise is what helps me the most. Hope that helps!

I remember reading about the Wahls diet many years ago. But there was no way I could follow it. It avoids dairy, eggs, and whole grains, all of which are important to me. Also, I have a sweet tooth and sugar is a no no on that diet. Of course, sugar is a no no on almost any healthy diet!

Omg! That’s exactly why it wasn’t good for me!

wahls can be helpful, but is very difficult to follow. I did for @ 6 mos and did feel better. I prefer the OMS overcoming MS program.

I followed the way of life (Wahls diet for 5 years). Its amazing!!! I only stoped due to other issues and can no longer eat very much fiber. There are many things to know about this diet and I suggest you read the book before deciding. There is an elimination period before you add some things back in , like eggs. There are also different levels. It eliminated a lot of my inflammation issues. You can use many herbs for flavor like any other recipe. The food is real and not processed with all the Juke so if not use to , may seem tasteless , but to me was delicious. My husband and I started for one month then decided we both felt so much better we would go for it. We not only felt better but lost a lot of weight. I would say please try it. At least read the book before you decide.

I didnt try it the first time I read it because of all the restrictions and foods. However over a period of time my diet had modified and tried it again. Since I live alone alot of food to prepare and I modified it. I found adding more protein helpful. Veggies good for bowel regularity. I tried to get some nutrients from pills vs organ meat. Has helped my energy levels but Working on keeping sugar out. I think there is merit in her theory feed the micronutrients needed and keep the inflammation down, I still have MS and didn't lose weight

I haven't tried it but would stay away from it. I also have Type 2 diabetes and have been diet-controlled with it for 40 years now. I paid close attention to diet when the diabetes was diagnosed and still watch what I eat--and keep an eye on the literature on diet and nutrition. From what I've been able to find out, it looks as if a sensible balanced diet, especially the Mediterranean diet, is the best choice for someone with MS but so far no specific diet has been found to have an effect on MS. But getting adequate vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber, etc., is important.

Here's one of the best articles ever written about MS and MS diets. Caveat emptor for all of them.

Hi, AmTurner28! Sorry for the late reply. I bought the book on the Wahls diet. Unfortunately, a lot of the organ meat & vegetables is not available in my rural area. Hubs is NOT going to eat some of that, anyway. I try to stick to a basic diet & avoid a lot of sugar.I read a lot about the Mediterranean diet. It is supposedly a good diet for us. I am sorry about your recent diagnosis. Please be kind to yourself.
