Getting rid of my horrible scalp psoriasis

I am a mature lady who has suffered from Psoriasis most of my life so you can imagine Ive tried everything and my hope for any success from any drug or product is 0. I decided to go all natural turning my back on traditional medication in favour of a more holistic approach. I set myself up for failure as I had nothing to lose or gain. I had no idea there were so many natural products available and I urge everyone to try at least a couple of these alternatives. The thing that works best for me is a psoriasis treatment shampoo from an organic company called Humankind Organics, this is the most amazing product I have ever tried after all those years using tar shampoos and the like i now have a completely 100% clear scalp AND its all natural, I feel angry with my GP for palming me off with expensive drugs that we the taxpayer are paying for, when they are insufficient for a condition like mine. I am less stressed about my condition these days as I can cover up my body but everyone sees my head as a bonus I visited the hairdresser (as I no longer have scalp P) and my new haircut makes me look younger and that simple act has put me on cloud nine (you have to be a sufferer to understand that last part)!

Have a look here for more details, and please let us know what you think about this!

Bevis, Communications Manager at the British Skin Foundation

Hello, I'm more confident these days but still quite shy about my condition. I don't think Id be very good as I wouldn't support the medical profession as they've done nothing to help me (and others like me) I feel let down as I believe they know there are other treatments available, but they want to push pharmaceutical drugs onto sufferers knowing that they dont work as they frequently see us back at their surgeries! My GP saw my scalp recently and said 'that's great news' so I asked him to recommend the shampoo to another sufferer, he said he couldn't!!!! Well that's helpful isnt it? Sorry, I will think about it over the next few days though and I will support your charity. Sallyanne

I agree.

Doctors don't know what you are going through. My experience ,drs either want to give you pills..or creams. They don't live with this. We do.

I used to suffer from psoriasis for about 15 years so I have tried every single cream & ointment there is. Unfortunately almost every cream had little effect at all but thankfully I was actually able to completely cure my psoriasis after my cousin told me how she cured hers. I only had to do 2 things,:

1. Use a humidifier in your house. This will add moisture to the air and to your skin without you knowing.

2. Follow every step in the free video & guide seen at

Try those two steps and hopefully you will get as much luck with getting rid of psoriasis as I did. Just remember psoriasis does not have to be a permanent problem, creams may slightly ease symptoms occasionally (as does fish oil capsules) but you really need to tackle the root cause.

Hi Sally Anne,

Thanks for the swift response and the honest reply. Yes, please do have a think and let me know, our angle is always going to be about the diseases themselves and how it affects people, whether it's skin cancer, eczema of psoriasis. It's just a way so people, especially those without a skin disease, can start thinking about it more, and to help reduce the stigma of when they do see someone with a skin condition that they don't understand!

All the best,

Hi,thank for your info

Hello Yapkou

Sorry I haven’t looked at the site to see your reply, I have had a rather busy day (I’m out and about these days as my confidence is well and truly here to stay!)

Shell567 is right, the site is but I got mine from their shop on eBay, it’s the same price. I was asked by the British Skin Foundation to talk to the press about my experience as a Psoriasis sufferer, after thinking about this I have decided not to as I would have liked to have had before and after photographs to show them and I’m not abstaining from a regular shampoo to get my scalp in a state again, I regret not doing this in the first place but I didn’t know how well it would work! Sorry Bevis, hope you find someone soon. Perhaps someone else would consider this as the couple who run this very small company deserve all our help for coming up with a brilliant product. I contacted the lady, Elizabeth a week ago and she was lovely and gave me a few tips too. Her husband has Psoriasis hence the invention. You wont believe that its organic and not made from chemicals. Elizabeth explained that the treatment cream they sell works wonders on new sufferers because their skin hasn’t been thinned through steroid use (thanks again docs)but saying that I have seen an enormous difference on some parts of my body but not entirely, but its worth a go.

Good luck

Sallyanne (psoriasis scalp)

Hello - I have just had a scalp flair and checked out this website, I read your comment and then noticed that you were asked to assist 'The British Skin Foundation' which you refused.

Have you considered that by you refusing to assist that to outsiders like myself it looks as if you could be just making this comment on this site in order to increase sales of the item you mention is working for you?

I would have tried this lotion if you had supported the Skin Foundation and helped them in their work for all of us suffering with this horrible condition. But it looks to suspect to me to believe you as there are many people out there trying to sell creams and they will try anyway to advertise them,

Before starting the psoriasis treatment it is important for the sufferer to know its side effects and problems. Usually it is acknowledged that psoriasis occurs when immune system gets disturbed which give rise to the early growth of the new skin cells which is not the case in normal skin cells. As per the natural phenomenon the new skin cell takes around 14 days to mature while the older ones take weeks to fall off. In this case, when the new skin cell start maturing rapidly before its usual time then they deposit in a place on the body and so this give rise to psoriasis. This problem also damages the normal skin that is near the troubled area.

I have had the horrible scalp psoriasis and other psoriasis patches all my body for years which brought on great emotional stress. When I combed my hair, clumps of hair used to come off with the scales leaving the area raw and burning like fire. The constant itching made me scratch my skin until it became raw and often bled staining my clothes and bed sheet. I had the psoriasis symptoms for well over 25 years and the steroids I was using on my forehead cause my skin to thin. It also formed small holes that was filled with white gooey stuff which came out when I squeezed it. I often smelt the coal tar odour when I sweated.

Since these treatments bought no relief I decided to look at alternative natural treatments and I found one written by a cured psoriasis sufferer doctor that involved detoxification to remove the poisons from my body and also took antioxidants to help boost my immune system as well as blood and liver purification teas and herbs. Because I was suppressing my symptoms with my doctors prescription medicines I was not getting any significant psoriasis remission at all. However, by following the 100% natural treatment that I found, it actually tackled the root causes including leaky gut syndrome and the flare-ups and I was able to get complete remission in weeks. I can now wear what ever I want when I go to the beach and pools. The psoriasis treatment information was so eye opening I now know exactly why pharmaceuticals would have never cured me and I would have to use their creams and lotions for the rest of my life.

Hey. The detoxification sounds amazing & something I'd definitely like to try out. Where can I find the guidelines/instructions for this?

Are you psoriasis free all of the time now?

Thanks in advance x

Lily1990 profile image

Hey. I started suffering from scalp P late last year. I ordered the shampoo & conditioner you have mentioned in your post & have used it three times so far but have noticed no change.

How long were you using it before you started seeing a difference? Also, how long did you leave the shamp & con on for?

Thanks in advance x

I'm so glad I stumbled over this website while Googling for scalp psoriasis treatments. This lead me to check out Humankind Organics' website, and I tried their 7-day trial of their all-natural shampoo. Thank God!

I've had scalp psoriasis for over 15 years, and finally my scalp is starting to feel normal again. I still have itching and scaling, but after just 7 washes, I would say it's minimized the symptoms by at least half. It's been incredible, and now that I've finished the trial, I've purchased a full bottle. I think I may switch it out now and again with a different shampoo, and I use a very moisturising conditioner afterwards to keep my hair from drying out, but I think my hair is just not used to having all-natural ingredients in it instead of chemicals (like Dovobet, which isn't recommended for long-term use anyhow) and the harsh chemicals most shampoos have. I know my hair DOES feel bouncier and healthier after a nice dose of Tresemme or Herbal Essences, but when balanced out with Humankind Organics' shampoo and other sulfate-free, follicle-cleansing shampoos, my scalp is feeling WORLDS better. So, so relieved.

If you're suffering like I've been (progressively worse over the last year due to stress I think), please try them out. Do yourself a favor. They offer a money-back guarantee, and at less than £6, you really can't go wrong.

Thank you to the original poster for sharing her story. I'm grateful!!!

I live in So California and saw your post. I have scalp P and have it one other areas too. Your post was two years ago and I wanted to know if you still are getting good results from Humankind. Please, let me know or if you have found something else. Many thanks! Neil

Maybe it's just me but both the original poster and the last poster on this thread both strike me as being suspect in terms of supporting a product. I might be wrong but I've read countless similar posts online in recent years and bought countless products as a result to no avail. If they are fake then they really should be ashamed of themselves.

Dear theheathen,

My dad suffered from scalp psoraisis all of his life, so bad he used to vacuum his hair of a night. He had all variations of Betnovate. I developed it too and it was always after a period of Stress. At some points my head was like the Moon, full of craters of scabs, sometimes it was green! My family used to go mad because I was always picking my scalp and pulling scales and hair out and not noticing I was doing it and where I was. Anyway, I have had Betnovate, Dovonex, Oilatum, Polytar, the lot and nothing has worked. I came across this site a couple of months ago because I have lost a lot of hair picking out the scales and wanted to know if I could use a hair thickener whilst I had Psoriasis on my scalp. I read about the Humankind Organics shampoo and was impressed with the reviews so I went to their site. Rather than go for the trial size which I wasn't sure about how much I'd get in it, I bought an offer of shampoo, conditioner and cream to put on scales on my elbows. I can promise you, on the life of all of my family, that this shampoo has worked for me. I didn't feel a difference after the first use but by the second there was definitely a difference. I have only used it once a week for the last 6 weeks but after week 4 it was gone and has stayed away - and believe me again, I have had a lot of Stress over the last couple of months. It smells like Polytar to me but its very thin. Even the scales behind and inside my ears have gone. I am more than pleased with it. I can feel like a coating over my body where it runs down when rinsing it off in the shower. To be honest, I have not used the conditioner because I don't use conditioner anyway, it makes my hair too soft - but I bought it anyway just in case. With regard to the cream for my elbows, I keep forgetting to put it on. It's not a very nice smell but I did notice when I did use it, the scales decreased. I need to use it more regularly and am trying to remember to use it at night. It spreas very thinly and will last a LONG time for where I need it. I have recommended the shampoo to everyone I know because it really has worked for me. I promise you, I am just an ordinary person, I don't know anyone who works for Humankind Organics and have no stake in the company. I don't usually write reviews but when I saw your comment I felt I had to reply because for the price of the trial size it could put you out of the misery and irritation I have suffered for years due to scalp Psoriasis. If it doesn't work, at least you will know you tried it. Ask someone to buy it for you as a present if you don't want to pay for it yourself. I wish my Dad was still here so I could get him some.

Like goa girl, I bought this product last Tuesday (shampoo only) trial size - they offer a money back guarantee on the trial size if it does not work for you - so I thought - nothing to lose, it arrived the next day. I am 64 years old, female, and developed psoriasis about 10 years ago. I have one small patch on my left elbow otherwise it is confined to my scalp. I have tried everything on the market in the last 10 years, with betnovate coming out on top (although that is relative) - but did not like using it as my hair is very fine. For the last 3 weeks I have had a really bad bout, actually combing my scalp several times a day to try and reduce the itching - although I only have mild psoriasis according to the scale - the itching drives me mad.

I tried it on Wednesday, did not notice any difference. I washed my hair again on Thursday and did notice a slight reduction in itching I thought. I washed my hair again on Friday and could really notice a reduction in itching. This morning (Saturday) I went for my usual hair dressing appointment (luckily my hairdresser is also a sufferer so I had no embarrassment). I asked her to check my scalp for lumps, redness, sores etc - she was amazed and said that if she did not know better she would not know I had psoriasis. She said my scalp looked the best she had ever seen it, not one flake to be seen (first time in 10 years I have been dandruff free), the skin showed no signs of redness and looked completely normal and healthy.

She used the shampoo on me again this morning and I am hoping not to wash my hair again until around Wednesday.

I am very impressed with this shampoo - for me it is the best thing I have tried. So far today (its nearly 4pm) I have not scratched once.

I live in Lancashire, the company I believe is in Wales, I have no affiliation with them whatsoever.

Unlike the OP I am willing to assist the British Skin Foundation if they still need it - and if it continues to be effective for me. At the moment I can only say that I am not itching, have no scales, no flakes and my scalp looks and feels normal.

I have had very bad psoriasis for years and nothing helped not even doctor medicine but this DermalMD Psoriasis Treatment serum cleared my skin in about 3 days of using it twice a day i love this stuff!!!

I'm really pleased to hear that the shampoo worked for you :-) unfortunately it didn't work for me; I bought the trial size bottle and it actually made my scalp itchier and drier and I had to discontinue :-(

After research i got foderma serum and this serum is working better than expected. I was expecting it to help my skin psoriasis, but the amount of improvement in a little over a week is amazing. The scaling has cleared up and it itches far less.

Hi. I too have scalp psoriasis. For me, I find itchy. Then I find myself picking at it. Sounds weird but I like scratching.

Well done, brought a tear to my eye as I have scalp psoriasis and avoid hairdressers. I feel ashamed, embarrassed, apologise for my scalp. Its been 2 years since I got hair cut, prior was ,5 years. I need hair cut now, thank you

I only have a small patch of psoriasis on my scalp and anxious to keep it that way and improve it. Dermalmd treatment serum seems like it will do that quickly.

After reading ur post, i have decided to try out Humankind organics shampoo. After using for a week, my hair is getting very stiff(texture like fake hair). And on the scalp, lies a layer of gluey substance which will stuck to my comb while combing my hair. I have also purchase their conditioner. But the conditioner does not helps to ease the stiffness of the hair. Decided to try consecutive 2weeks. The conditions seems worst. My scalp is more actively itchy and the plague is getting more obvious. So i decide to stop using after 2weeks as Humankind Organic shampoo and conditioner have worsened my scalps conditions.

Would seeks further advise from fellow friends for other opinions and recommendations of products.

yeah it didn't work for me either my hair got so hard like and very i guess oily it was gross is all i know and my head itched so much when sleeping i would make it bleed. i got psoriasis in 2013 i had never had it before but i had so much stress and it was more emotional stress long story short i literally cried 9 days just so sad and hurt and after that developed a rash or so i thought all over me and it took forever to go away then it would come back well finally went to dr and told psoriasis my scalp was the last place i got it and basically the place i get it all the time and also in the creases of thigh but i gave up a bit ago and last month i thought screw all this expensive stuff that doesn't work if i have it i have it im done using all this medicated crap that ruins your scalp more than helped it so i went back to using what i used in high school herbal essence and if you can believe it after a week my head stopped itching and i have not had psoriasis in over a month i was beginning to think i wouldn't know what a clear head felt like again but it feels so great im sure this wouldn't work for everyone but thats my story and for the creases in leg believe it or not it worked last year too and this year going in our pool after a couple days makes it go away i think the chlorine has something to do with it
