hi, i developed psoriasis about 10 years ago, when me and my partner got together, it started on my head and is now on my head, ears, hands, elbows, belly, bum, knees and ankles i have tried every cream the doctor could prescribe and also got referred to a dermatology nurse, who wasnt very helpful as he said the doctor has given me all the treatments i can try and its not wide spread enough for light therapy!
when i was pregnant with my son however it all went away! now ive had him 2 years on its back and its worse than ever!
has anybody else had this happen? i asked the doctor if the psoriasis could be linked to my contraceptive pill, he replied no, yet since me and my partner have been together i have had a different doctor to previously and been given a different pill then this begins! when i was pregnant, i wasnt on my pill, it goes, when i had my son i go back on it and its back!! i have now had the coil fitted, the copper one with no hormones, so watch this space!
in the mean time can anyone recommend any treatments etc that may be effective?

thanks annie, i have just got back from my doctors surgery, and yet again i have been told that the dovobet ointment is the best they can give me for my skin, and the betnovate scalp treatment for my head i cant help but feel they just dont care, i am interested in maybe trying some natural treatments but i am unsure of what sites to trust online, any advice/guidance would be much appreciated.
Hello - Have you come off the contraceptive pill now? If so, has the Pso disappeared or reduced? My Pso disappeared for a year when I was about 20 years old... And the only thing I can think of that made it disappear was that I came off the pill (as I did everything else the same, i.e. alcohol intake, lifestyle, diet). My Pso appeared at around age 16 (a year after I started the pill) I've been trying to do some research about if the pill and Pso are connected so anyone who has any info or experiences on it to tell me, that would be great. I am wondering whether to come off the pill again to see if the Pso disappears but am definitely not ready for a baby yet so will have to look at other contraception methods. I dont think the surgery can do a lot. Psoriasis isn't life threatening but it has to be the top in nuisance value. Time consuming with little to show for it. One thing is important that you have to stay positive about it. Easier for your partner, but we all like to take a pride in our appearance.
There are numerous websites to look at - keep them British. You can always approach your pharmacist. They can at least give you any friendly advice. The last spots I had were on my bot. I layered so much dovobet ointment on them, they disappeared quite quickly but then they could have been on the way out.
In my case, I blame constant infections from tonsillitis which were eventually removed. They say stress being the cause - not sure about that but they can cause stress because they are a b----r. They talk about sun being good - didn't do a thing for me.
You talked not going to the hairdressers. I would go - tell them first and take your own shampoo. I found that hairdressers couldn't give a toss about skin psoriasis. In one case, the girl had it herself. It is quite common.
Thing is, here, louiismum, try and keep positive about the whole business. Easier for your partner, too, and Louis. One day, fingers crossed, the whole so and so lot will disappear.
Hello there, my sister had the same happen to her when she was pregnant and was disappointed when it came back but she doesn't use the pill so not too sure how that is going to work out. I have had psoriasis for the past 30 years and tried a number of treatments like you say, after Leo pharmacies in their wisdom removed dovonex from the uk (still available across the rest if Europe) which had controlled mine for years but was thinning out my skin I tried dovobet with pretty poor results. I went back to the doctor and she gave me tazarotene gel 0.1%. This was very successful, I put it on at night for two to three days just before going to sleep and find I am pretty much clear for the next 2-3 months which is nice after spending years putting cream on twice a day. Hope this is helpful.
There was something about a hairdresser, if they are being funny about it you should have a word with the manager, I have dated a number of hairdressers and they all knew what it was and were not slightly phased by it, sounds like you have got someone very immature that needs to be educated
Try and see if cutting out sls and sles out will help. Sls was made originally to clean diesel engines with. You will even find this detergent in aqueous cream. I make my own whipped body butter using half coconut oil, 1/4 shea butter and 1/4 cocoa butter. I gently melt them together then whip it in a mixer until it goes like whipped egg whites. After the first time I used this on my skin the itching was soothed and it felt sooooo very blissful :). My guttate psoriasis was gone within three weeks. 99p stores have some sulphate free baby shampoo atm called Disney Babies. I hope this helps.
Hi louismummy so soz to hear u are finding it so difficult. I have eczema and the two worst episodes as an adult were after I gave birth to my daughter in 1993 and then in 2007 when I started tamoxifen (an oestrogen suppressant as breast cancer treatment). So I am inclined to think, like you, that hormonal change plays a part in skin breakdown. Neither my GP nor the dermatologist that I was referred to in 2007 seemed to know if any research had been done in this area, but I have suggested this to the Centre of Evidence Based Dermatology based at University of Nottingham. Good luck louismummy hope everything goes well. I know it can be depressing but chin up and soldier on. I have suffered for years and nothing seems to work for me and i sometimes feel like just calling it a day but wot the hell i carry on maybe i will come across something one day who knows.

Hi. I have suffered several outbreajs of psoriasis in my life at various difficult and stressfull periods of my life. Diff childbirth death if parent's etc and my outbreaks were severe. This has happened because of stress but to be honest I personally do not think I am was the type. I am 59 now. When my husband had a stroke , also 59, I went into meltdown and yes the psoriasis returned. For each outbreak ive had I've been sent by my gp toa dermy and apart from the steroid creams I was started on methotrexate 2.5mg gradually inc to 20mg now. The problem is my skin is 99% normal but the psoriasis has gone into my bones and I have now been diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. This is in most major joints and is quite painful. My hands fingers and knuckle joints are so painful at times I drop things and simple jobs are becoming hard. I was referred to a rheumatologist and on my 2nd visit he advised steroid injections into my knukles. I had this but does not seem to have worked. I await my 3rd vistit to rhumy at end of feb. So my advice to anyone with psoriasis is however you do it kerp your weight in check and kerp supple because I never imagined I could get arthritis from a skin complaint but this is not nice at all. At 59 I did not expext that me a seasoned skier tobe debilitated with psoriatuc arthritis. Good luck to you and your journey. X

My psoriasis is getting worse. Feel like I'm losing my mind - absolutely nothing works. No matter what products I use, there is never any difference. I've tried dozens and dozens of different cleansers, moisturizers and BP products. Can anyone please recommend a product I've not tried? Something new?
Relax, I know exactly what you’re going through. I suffer from mild to sometimes moderate psoriasis. But this summer it was so bad.
