Are there ever any group skype meetings with people on this forum? And would any moderators be interested in hosting one?

I feel a need to converse with other OCDers on occasion. Trying to explain my condition to non OCD people is often fruitless and makes things work. I have been unable to find a live support group close to me in Maryland.

It could be another level of support for us and no one would have to use their camera if they choose not to.

There are many support groups for people with OCD, a lot of them are virtual. You can find a list of them at iocdf.org by clicking on Find Help, then Support Groups. You can also click on Recovery and Support, then Livestreams on the same website to learn about Community Conversations which is an interactive livestream that meets virtually on most Tuesdays.

NatureLover is correct, due to this form being so broad they wouldn't be able to moderate a group like that. And it could get dangerous, even if not for mental health, but people trying to steal personal information. People can be really mean .. Take care!

The size of this group wouldn’t be a problem. Large virtual groups are either facilitated by an OCD Specialist, Advocates and people who have OCD. The ones that are led by OCD Specialists and Advocates are managed very well. Some of the ones led by people with OCD are managed well too but some aren’t. Some allow tips that feed OCD because even though the facilitator means well, they don’t have enough of an understanding of OCD to led a group and don’t keep up with the current knowledge and research on it. That sounds harsh but unfortunately it’s not unusual. Ones led by OCD Specialists tend to be done using a particular type of Zoom platform that is more secure and private than a general Zoom platform. But it’s the internet and anything can happen including disruption by a bot. Some of these interactive virtual groups also include a chat that people can type things into. The facilitator asks that people not take screenshots, etc. so people feel free to use it but I’m sure some people take screenshots anyway. A person’s information to set up a Zoom account couldn’t be accessed from the support group.
