I have been open to the idea of going on medication to help treat my OCD, however I am a little nervous about it because I am hoping to become pregnant this year. I have heard from some friends that there is OCD medication that is safe for pregnant people. Is there anyone out there that has taken OCD medication while pregnant? Or has any insight into this? I have never been on any anxiety medication before but have an appointment with a psychiatrist next week to discuss my options. My fear is to start taking something & then have to get off of it & feel worse than I did before.

I am in no way a doctor nor have I been pregnant, so take my response with a grain of salt.
I think speaking with a doctor about your options in the best way to go about this. I know my sister, while pregnant, struggled because she chose not to take her medication. It really hurt to watch her suffer through what would have otherwise been an exciting experience.
What I think is most important is that you feel as comfortable as you possibly can through any pregnancy process. It's a lot of work, and you need the support that is right for you (medication or otherwise).
Just sharing my experience, but I've been on sertraline for 25 years, through all of my pregnancies. I lowered my dose when I was pregnant but did stay on it the whole time. I think it helped me through all the hormones and emotional changes.
Thank you for sharing! That is super helpful to know & makes me feel better that it is an option. I’m also very nervous that my OCD will get worse while pregnant anyway, so would love to be able to know that there is a way that I can help that too.
