I have pure obsessional OCD and have been on Fluvoxamine for a couple years now. I've found it pretty effective overall. In the last week I decided to try K Health, one of those apps that prescribes and mails you mental health medications, because it seemed more convenient than having to see an in-person psychiatrist and pick up the prescription at a pharmacy. However, they didn't have Fluvoxamine on their list of prescriptions, so the doctor on there suggested switching to Zoloft (which doesn't seem to treat OCD, just anxiety). So I said yes, and I've been in the process of switching over -- half a tablet every night. In the few days since I've started doing that, I've experienced a return of my OCD thoughts and the anxiety that goes along with them, as well as the physical symptoms of feeling adrenaline and cortisol in my libs.
So I talked with K Health this morning and they are switching me onto Prozac, which apparently treats OCD as well. My question is, is it worth trying to make the switch to Prozac, or is Fluvoxamine a better medication? Should I just go back to the in person psychiatrist I've been seeing and stick to Fluvoxamine? Or is Prozac a legitimate alternative?
Thanks for any clarity anyone can offer.

I think Zoloft helps a lot of people with OCD, although I have never tried it. I have been on Prozac for many years and find it takes the edge off enough to help me do therapy better. I started out with fluvoxamine and switched for some reason I have long forgotten - maybe it just wasn't having much effect.
All those meds seem to affect people differently, though, so I think it's often just trial-and-error until you find one at a dose that works.
Good morning, I would go back on the Luvox if it was working well for you. I have been on MULTIPLE medications that haven't worked for OCD. If you found one that worked stick with it. Don't put yourself through trying multiple medications if you don't have to. Have a beautiful day!
Hello! I’m on fluvoxamine and have had OCD for 20+ years. I definitely experience most of the types of OCD. Anyway, fluvox helped me tremendously and Zoloft didn’t help me at all. Zoloft is mostly for depression but we have a specific disorder which needs specific meds. Whatever you do, I wouldn’t go back to Zoloft.
