OCD and hormonal birth control

Does anyone else find that taking hormonal birth control pills affects their OCD? This is the second time I’ve attempted to start taking one- first time was in 2017 before I’d been diagnosed with OCD and I only lasted 3 months before I felt depressed and unlike myself and had to stop taking the pill. At the time I was also having symptoms of OCD (but they didn’t really take ahold until about a year after I stopped the pill).

Last month I again attempted a different birth control pill and now my second month in I am feeling really emotional, cant stop crying, and noticing an increase in my OCD symptoms and ability to let thoughts go.

Does anyone else have a similar experience and can share how they’ve navigated it? My OCD really makes me doubt whether I’m just making it up or not/being dramatic and overanalyzing.

Hi there, I don’t really know for sure regarding the effects of birth control pills but in my own case my doctor felt that HRT pills I was on was making my OCD and depression worse and I was advised to stop them 3 weeks ago , I am on Prozac and olanzapine at the moment and I do feel an improvement for stopping the hrt,so maby hormones play a role in it,? I know I was also very ill with the ocd after I had the children, I think there is a connection alright, I wish you all the best going forward 🤗🤗🤗

I hope this helps im not on a hormonal birth control but i can say i avoid them because of my ocd because of that reason. And the reason i say that is because when my hormones where everywhere after having my baby or when im on my cycle my ocd gets triggered so bad with thoughts and emotions. So i feel like the pill is not helping with your ocd because it can be added emotional stress that no one needs!!! I hope you feel better! Ocd is so horrible! If your comfortable trying the iud i would recommend that ive had it twice and no issues whatsoever. Just be mindful the paragaurd is the one with no hormones at all some of the other ones have hormones but that one does not at all!
