OCD Struggles

Does anybody else constantly have to check if the door is locked? I also check my wallet to make sure everything is in there over 5 times a day. I don’t know why I do that but I do. Is anyone else like that?

I don't have those OCD symptoms but the ones you mentioned are very common. You are not alone in that at all.

I have a lot of checking compulsions.

I check if the stove is off, anything I write, read.

It is a major struggle everyday.

I can understand what you are going through with checking.

I sometimes check if the door is locked a few times before leaving the house.

Checking is a very classic OCD compulsion. Have you tried to resist the checking? That is the key to stopping this. I know it sounds easy, but it of course is absolutely not! But if you can resist it, you will find that it will get easier and easier to be able to. I go through this every so often (along with other compulsions), but you can stop this with practice :)

Always remember though....we are not perfect. If you can't resist, try try again :) :)

That's not my main OCD issue, but once in a while I will check the stove, make sure I unplugged my flat iron, etc.

Before I leave m apartment, I pull on the door knob until I hear it “click.” Then I proceed to say a series of prayers for St. Michael to protect my kitty.

Just today, I found myself walking back despite my compulsions to pull on the door another time. I didn’t check the stove today, so that’s a plus!

I do a very similar sequence! And that is a plus! It’s very hard to stop these habits

Checking is my main compulsion. It was worse before I started taking sertraline on advice of my counselor.
