I have always had support when it comes to family and friends . But for those who don't have that support, the family members need to be educated instead of thinking a person can just "snap out of it"... Are they open minded at all??? Or are you on your own? And do you live with them or are you in your own place? I hope they can finally support you. It's so very important.

Hi Ladybug9 ! Thank you for your response. I just moved back in with my parents. I have had OCD for 10 years and really only just recently my mom has realized I have a true illness. That said, I still receive a lot of unhelpful commentary. My dad believes I am caving to pathologies. My sister certainly does not have the capacity to have empathy for this mental illness. Unfortunately my family is very cut-throat, tough, bottom line mean. It is very difficult.

I am so sorry to hear that on top of dealing with your OCD, you also have to deal with family that has no empathy. All you can do is educate them the best you can, possibly have the most stubborn members speak with your doctor to help explain just how "real" OCD is, and after you have done all of that... It's on them. Let go and live your life. Some people would prefer to live in denial and that makes me hurt for you!

Yes u r right none of the family members are supporting or try to listen our pain , but we are punished ourselves doing things many times repeatedly omg it's a self killing punishment family members still worst do u know what they say

1. U know how talk with people and what is rt or wrong that also u can find out

2. U know how to count money and talking all good words.

3. U have sense of humor but we too know this and we can understand what we r doing rt or wrong but our mind thoughts making us to do so

With whom do u share to get peace of mind because they are not OCD patient they doesn't what is real OCD atleast not bothered to search solutions why our kids behaviour is changing instead of calling mental try to listen our pain and give strength to come out of this diseases

One thing I like to do is tell people all the research that's been done to show that OCD is a brain-based disorder. It has a physioligical component that is undeniable. It isn't a question of weakness.
