Smearing soap into my TV screen

Hi,

The other day I was cleaning noticeable fingerprints off my TV when I got the intrusive thought/obsession "What if you just ran and purposefully pumped soap and smeared it on your TV screen?" It was an out of nowhere thought.

Now I'm trying to understand how ERP would address this specific situation. Don't know if I should smear soap on my TV or if I should just let that thought be & let it pass without doing anything.

I think it's one of those you just let be. ERP could be simply watching tv without following the compulsion.

Well, I think you have asked this question several times in another forum. Now you have to make a decision and move on. Noone can give you the perfect answer. I know this pattern too well for myself, not meaning to be harsh - I just know that this is a form of compulsion, and you have to break this loop. Make a desiocion today how you will handle the situation. If you will benefit search for a therapist. Wishing you the best.

I think the compulsion would be to smear the soap on the TV, which you would not want to do. Just acknowledge the thought was there. That is all that it is....a thought. Ignore it and go on.

I do not know the true answer but if you can let that thought pass and avoid doing it that would be best. I have OCD and I cannot give advice because I have issues too so I’m only making a suggestion. Please let me know if you were able to ignore it and how you did it?

I’m looking for advice too. ☺️

I would say just to avoid do it, that is the compulsion, the more you give in the more it takes, try you best to live with the though accept it and move on, remember that it is no you, it is the OCD.
