Ocd and anti psychotics

Hi: I have a severe case of ocd. Ssris do not seem to help and at times have made me feel worse...suicidal ideation. My therapist thinks I need to add an anti psychotic to the mix (Abilify). I am terrified but willing to give it a go if I thought it would help. Any thoughts. I am desperate for relief. Thank you.

Hi Normal - I've never taken Ambilify, but just this weekend someone in the United Kingdom OCD forum said she takes Sertraline (generic Zoloft) & generic Ambilify together. I had never heard of it before this weekend, but there is someone out there taking these together.

I wouldn't be scared off from a medication just because it's called an antipsychotic. If you trust your therapist and he/she has experience with OCD, I would give it a try. If it doesn't work, you can stop. But make sure you're getting therapy from someone who specializes in OCD and ERP. I'm sorry you're feeling so miserable. OCD can be very tough and it's not easy to futz around with medications, waiting for something to help. Sending hugs!
