Car adaptations?

Hi. Please can anyone tell me if they’ve gone for car adaptions like changes to the passenger seat/ hoist etc rather than a WAV? I’m trying to work out which would be the most cost-effective. Hubby struggles to sit in the passenger seat now so the adaptations look really useful, that said, his mobility is declining and he’s likely to be in a wheelchair fairly soon which could make a WAV better. I’m not a fan of the WAV as they seem to put the wheelchair user in the back plus need long ramps for access. Any advice gratefully appreciated. 🙂

Hello,

We were in the same position and favoured an adaption rather than a WAV and this company may be of interest to you.

I think some degree of mobility would be helpful when using adaptions.

In our case my wife is now wheelchair bound and hoisted at home with zero mobility, so the decision was made for us. We now have a WAV and you soon get used to it.

I feel it is safer for us than the car as I was always anxious when getting L into the car. If she had stumbled or fallen I could not have lifted her as I was on my own. We have all the equipment at home but it's not so easy in a shopping centre car park.

The rate of deterioration for this MSA is hard to estimate, some people are stable for a while and some are continually getting worse. For us it was fairly stable with changes coming slowly but all that has changed following 2 strokes.

Take care

Derek

Hi

Sue and I went for the auto chair system as it is very cost effective compared to a wav vehicle.

autochair.co.uk

They can fit to any vehicle and the transfer is not to difficult.

My Sue has no mobility so we hoist her into her wheelchair where the autochair sling is placed so she can be hoisted into the front seat of the car and feel normal.

They can fit at home to your own car or to a new car from motobility which can be included in the car deal.

We have had no problems with ours for 5 years.

yes someon on this group recommended a company that fits a hoist into passages seat. You can take out so not there all the time. Reasonably light - lighter than a wheel chair. It is so so simple and has been life changing for us. Autochair thi k it was called I’ll check
