hi, are you in UK? Your social worker/OT will put you in touch and supply a wheelchair. We use an isense supplied by Dorset wheelchair services.

Hi

My Sue has had a couple of powered wheelchairs and would mostly recommend a joystick controlled one. However as he ability to control her limbs changed we had to forgo it, but whilst she could we enjoyed it.

The next question to ask is, is this for home use, shops or full independent movement along the roads as each one is different and do you want to transport it easily in which vehicle.

We plumped for a fully dismantlable smaller powered wheelchair so Sue could do her own shopping around M&S, until she started to rearrange all the displays!!!

Chat with MSA trust as they have lots of information to help you.

Hope this helps.

Wheelchair services are really variable and you may well not get what you actually need. They wouldn't provide one for my mother because she was in a nursing home (she had CBD which is similar to MSA). Once I got CHC funding I used the saving on nursing home fees and bought a Permobil M3 attendant controlled electric tilt in space wheelchair that she could stay in all day in any position and be moved about in indoor and outdoor, suitable for use with a hoist. Sadly it was too late and she only used it for her last few weeks - though was exactly what she needed years earlier but we couldn't afford with home fees. I paid £19000 but would be willing to sell for offers over £5000. It's fully adjustable, has memory positions, can be moved to user controlled. Drop me a private message if you or anyone else is interested.

Wheelchair services are, indeed, variable. Needed upgrade from standard U2 folding wheelchair. At appointment Physio said Adrienne could have a powered wheelchair as soon as she passed the assessment. However, she has blurred & double vision and antecollis. Can't really lift or turn head much. Powered wheelchair out of the question. Commissioners are adamant that they won't fit attendant control. Offered Rea Azalea push wheelchair for her with option to buy power pack at cost (because it's for MY benefit, and not hers). Advice to all, is if you're upgrading, get the powered wheelchair for your loved one whilst they can still pass the assessment. Sadly, Adrienne could never have passed it as she developed the antecollis at the very beginning of her illness. You can always add the attendant control afterwards.

wheelchair services in Wiltshire have been good. They’ve given me a Quockie powered wheelchair which tips. And asked about transportation too! I suggest you use wheelchair services as your first port of call x
