I passed out!

What could this be? We are awaiting delivery of our WAV van but today as it’s so sunny i wanted to go out. We had a nice afternoon out. But I had trouble getting back into the van.

The next thing I knew was waking up on the floor! What could it be? I don’t think it’s OH.

Hi there. Why don’t you think it’s OH? To me, it seems the most likely thing. Jackie used to faint many times a day, often without warning until we sorted her OH. It wasn’t always when she ‘stood up’, sometimes just a change of position would cause her to faint.

Good luck, Take care, Ian

i think the clue is in your letter..sunny day and van. heat control is one of the MSA problems. you are advised not to sit in the sun getting hot and to then get nto a possibly overheated van ........out like a light. If you ara sun worshipper that is likey to be the problem. The way to prevent is to sit out of the sun looking at it and never get into a van that has been sitting in the sun even if it has never bothered you before

Thank you, Freda. My problem is that I was not overheated. This happened outside of the van!

Monkeyfeet1Hi. Heartening you had a nice afternoon out. However, the problem you faced is a consequence of MSA if you have that. People with MSA suffer from autonomic temperature regulation. They produce less sweat and hence it becomes difficult to cool down. They should avoid extreme temperatures and stay hydrated . Please take care. Best wishes

Hi Pine Eater!

Thank you for your advice but I was not overheated.

Thank you again xxx

Monkeyfeet1Hi. That could have been due to a many reasons including OH. That is why staying hydrated is of great significance in msa. Do you have OH ? Take care. Best wishes

Apparently my last visit showed I had OH but I haven’t had any symptoms. Perhaps this is my first? I stay well hydrated xx

Hello and sorry to hear you passed out.

One other possibility is postprandial hypotension ie blood pressure fall after eating. I don’t know if you had anything to eat while you were out but sometimes just cake and coffee can cause my partner to faint. We have to be very careful with transfers/mobilising after eating as he regularly faints. Just a thought.
