Self propelled wheelchair

I have a powered wheelchair now. I used to have one that my partner pushed, but it got too difficult for him. The powered chair is very easy to use and leaves my other half free. It was definitely the right choice for me.
hi Maisie
I was given a self propelled wheelchair initially. I also have an electric wheelchair which is better around the house now I’ve got attendant controls and cannot leave tje house unattended. I hope this helps x
Adrienne was told she could have a powered wheelchair via the NRS wheelchair service providing she could pass the assessment (i.e., control it). She obviously can't because of her severe Anterocollis. Nurse was adamant the commissioners would not provide an attendant control to powerchair. We were given a Rea Azalea push wheelchair (with thoughts of buying a powerpack). Can get up ramp to kitchen, but not through gaps in kitchen cupboards to living room. Not too much of an issue until recently. We've managed to transfer Adrienne to the wheelchair in the kitchen via commode/shower chair on wheels and lift her to chair. This is becoming more difficult/dangerous and I've contacted NRS for a solution. Not heard back from them, except email to say they've passed on my email to the clinical team. My advice to you is to pass an assessment, getting the powered wheelchair, and IF in future you need an attendant to control it you can have a control fitted (own expense, I'm afraid).
BTW, the powerpack to the Azelea was to be fitted at our expense, as the powerpack was for MY benefit, and not hers. Caring service, no ?
I am 70, Adrienne 71, and I don't believe you should be pushing yourself around at your age Maisie.
We're now having a ceiling hoist fitted in living room, hence the need for a chair to come into living room for Adrienne. I used to be quite fit, but lifting Adrienne over the last few years has taken its toll.

I think it must be dependent on where you live. My husband was given a motorised chair, initially he could steer it himself but he can’t do that anymore. It has an attendant control at the back, which I now steer with
