I have a possible Crohn’s Disease diagnosis after an endoscopy on Monday showed a 7 cm ulcerative patch in my lower oesophagus. My Consultant thought malignant but managed to get the biopsy results on Wednesday and suspected Atypical Crohn’s.
Need a Pet Scan to confirm.
My concern is that Crohn’s is usually an autoimmune problem and I really don’t want to stop Besremi as this is controlling my PV.
Does anyone have Crohn’s but been able to continue with Pegasys/Besremi?
Thanks Paul

My understanding is that interferons can, in some cases, cause autoimmune issues. Particularly after long term use, I’ve been seven years. So it’s possible that Besremi is aggravating the Crohn’s, assuming that’s what I have.
Equally worrying is whether the Besremi is causing autoimmune issues since I really don’t want to stop it.
Hope you are in good health. I’m afraid I don’t monitor the forums as much as I should, a case of whilst I’m stable, I’m just trying to forget about my MPN.
Was your new condition sudden? You're right to be concerned about a possible auto immune condition arising while on IFN. Do you expect to find out more on the Crohn's being an autoimmune type?
The problem is what any of us have experienced may not predict what you will experience. Odds are all is ok, but there is an increased risk of a bad outcome, possibly sudden, and IFN can be most unpredictable in this and other areas.
What is your current dose? You could ask your Dr about reducing it and maybe combining a low dose of Rux. This may reduce the risk although it did not for one member.
I just found a document in my collection with this, and other relevant details:
"thus, if patients have high levels of serum gammaglobulins prior to treatment, or they develop increased levels of gammaglobulin while on treatment, clinicians should then consider the possibility that the patients may develop an autoimmune disorder."
