Dental and Periodontal Toxicity: These toxicities may include dental and periodontal disorders, which may lead to loss of teeth. In addition, dry mouth could have a damaging effect on teeth and mucous membranes of the mouth during long-term treatment with BESREMi. Patients should have good oral hygiene and regular dental examinations.
This is a recent post on dental complications with both IFN and Rux. It matches the label text Hunter noted. "Peg‐Ifn use was highly associated with gingival abscess (OR = 5.8, P = 0.004) and to a lesser degree to tooth loss". These are high odd ratios. Besremi is a peg-ifn.
Not directly your experience but your sudden dental troubles upon starting IFN could be related.
I’m not on interferon but I have had a couple of sensitive teeth for years. Try Sensodyne repair and protect toothpaste. Clean your teeth with this and then rub on the troublesome teeth. Don’t rinse.
Colgate also do similar. Hope that works for you. Louise x
I've had some sensitive teeth from gum grafts in the past that never quit being touchy. Not related to ET. I had to have the dental hygienist be very careful, and no scraping! Then after taking Hydroxyurea for 6 years, and Pegasys for 6 months, I got upper gum inflammation that was pretty bad. Oral surgeon prescribed Dexamethasone rinse which helped, and a numbing gel to rub on. Then I got Oragel mouthwash, and added hydrogen peroxide to it. I rinse with it at least 2-3 times per day, and it has completely reduced my sensitivity, and helped reduce the inflammation. My dentist of 18 years was amazed! There are also commercial mouthwashes with hydrogen peroxide already in them. My hematologist said that there are limited drugs for our blood condition, all with side effects, and you may just have to choose which ones you can live with. I am now on Jakafi, and it has the least side effects for me. Good luck to you, and I feel your pain.
