Thanks everyone for your help and advice. Brilliant as Usual.

Getting tooth taken out next Friday, so stopping Aspirin from tomorrow, also taking an antibiotic, should be finished the seven day course by Thursday.

The gold crown as I said had been in for over Forty years so not bad going 👍 parting is such sweet sorrow but at least I get to keep the gold yeh!!

My dentist said that a twenty year old would be happy to have teeth like mine, have always taken care of them, just so sad that it has come to this after all these years.

Hi !!

I will have to have my teeth out too, so I have a couple of questions :: Why do you have to stop taking Aspirin ? And why the antibiotics ??

I am very vervous about my "process" because our university hospital docs. refuse to discuss with us. It is like taking knowledge is a sin here in Denmark. The professors are ok, but there is none in my part of the country and telephone I cannot because of ruined hearing and violent Tinnitus.

So any advice will be blessed

Stopping aspirin prior to any surgical procedure is standard to prevent excessive bleeding.

Antibiotics are sometimes used with extractions as prophylaxis for infection. The mouth is a very germy place.

Sorry to hear that any doc would be reluctant to share information. That is their job - To educate, advise and consult with patients so patients can make good decisions about their care. Hope you do find docs who understand their role.

I don't think I'll find any. Since we've got those silly university hospitals here, there is no more mercy. All is about their own success !!

Yesterday I told my hospital doc about this page and all the good info we can extract from MPN. She looked all shaken and told me to stop coming anymore, cause " they could not treat a person who sought other ways "

So now I'm going to a lawyor to sue the hospitals. Makes me sick and tired !!

Hmmm-- I've never been an aspirin friend -- Have a soft stomach, but there is an old thing which work as well (as long as you can take it) and that is fullmilk. 1/2 - 1 l of fat milk a day. The milkfat contain a stuff which breaks down the fibrin in blood/bloodclots and also work as a sort of "antidot". Well-- as long as you do not have lactic acidosis allergy.

Anyway-- thanks for your answer. I'll try to spread your saying about the teaching of patients !!! Will surely give many a doctor here a solid nightmare (LOL)!!

It is very bad. I ran into the problem when I started medication some 6-7 years ago. There is a Danish group on FB for people like us. I was thrown out for spreading "false info" when posting something from an American professor (found in here).

Denmark is growing more and more medieval !! Soon'ish I'll be burned as a witch !! ::

The correct response to any doctor who states they cannot treat a patient who educates themselves about their health issues is "You are fired." Doctors work for the patient and on their behalf. Doctors who forget that need to find another job. Authoritarian medicine is bad medicine. Doctors who practice medicine that way should not be allowed to practice medicine. I would never under any circumstance tolerate that sort of behavior by a provider.

There are two MPN Specialists listed in Denmark. Perhaps you can arrange to see one of them. Professor Hans Hasselbalch is particularly well known in the MPN world. mpnforum.com/list-hem./

Sorry to hear the FB group was intolerant of divergent viewpoints. There are a variety of opinions an many topics regarding MPNs. We all benefit by seeing a range of viewpoints. That is how we all learn. Sounds like you are better off out of that group. That sort of intolerance is the last thing any of us need.

Not everyone can tolerate aspirin for sure. There are a number of other meds and some supplements that are also blood-thinning. We each need to find something that works for each of us.

Glad to hear you can use a bit of dark humor to deal with the craziness. Here in the States we had our own history of witch hunts. Seems like intelligent assertive independent women - must be witches!!

Hahahah-- Humour is a must in our world. I know Hasselbalck, but hearing his name make the other hospital docs see red. It is all about the biggest hmm hmmm hmmm here. No unity, only contests. A sad thing, but true !!

I would wish that nurses had a higher position, cause they are glorious and without them our visits to these "university hospitals" would have been a pure nightmare.It is like they seem to compensate for the doctors' behaviour -- or lack of same !

Professional jealousy is an ugly thing. Hasselbalch is the leading MPN specialist in Denmark and one of a handful known worldwide. Tough noogies if the other docs don't like him. Maybe they should take some of that wasted energy and use it to increase their own competence. And improve their attitudes.

Agree about nurses. They make a HUGE difference in the quality of care we receive.

Suggest you jump on you metaphoric broomstick and fly over to Roskilde to see Dr. Hasselbalch. Give the red-faced docs a wave as you fly over the hospital. The nurses will doubtless cheer you on your way. 🧹

Definitely. As soon as the clouds have disappeared tomorrow morning, I'll be speeding off to old Hasselbalch. Don 't own a proper broom, but I'll fix a bunch aof toothbrushes to a pole a bit like a Wankel motor 🤔And yes, the nurses are blessed ones !

Hi Aspirin thins the blood, so could bleed quite a bit once tooth is extracted and the Antibiotic is because I had and infection under the crown, was also showing up in my platelets, but they did not know where, it was found this week when I was at the dentist on an X-ray, also the pain became really bad, and surrounding gum was very inflamed, he took crown off and exposed the infection, plus part of the tooth came away with the crown, Dentist has said the infection had been brewing for some time hence the extraction cannot save the tooth. 🤦‍♀️

Hi-- awfully sorry for you . I have serious trouble with both teeth, nails and hair (almost gone). But last time I was at the dentist-- when I still used aspirin (now I use fullmilk-- old old advice), nobody thought about the thinning effect and I did not bleed, but maybe I was just lucky !!!

I will have to have my teeth pulled out, but I don't care so much. There has been so much talking in here about the fear of implants . Do you know anything about that ???

I had 2 implants and never again. The NHS won’t do them so you have to pay. The dentist was a highly skilled private dentist and no one told me about the pain to expect afterwards. He said it would be uncomfortable for a week or so. All my face bruised and swelled up, gum was so sore and stitches were uncomfortable. You have rods sticking out your gum for weeks until it heals. Eating is awkward during this time.The whole process takes about 6 months. You have to pay extra for consultation and in depth X-rays. Altogether my 2 implants cost me £4000. You can get them done at these dentist that offer cheap one but I didn’t want to take the chance. Obviously everyone’s experience is different, but that was mine.

Hi, I had a tooth out a few months ago and my dentist contacted my MPN Specialist just for advice on how to proceed. Out of that I had to have bloods taken to see where my platelets and WBC were, fortunately they were within safe limits but what was emphasized was that I must not stop taking my blood thinner. I questioned this and was told that a tooth extraction was considered a minor procedure. It was considered of greater risk to stop my blood thinners than that of any significant bleeding after the extraction. I had no problems as all (my tooth had a large filling in it and was also infected), I also had a course of antibiotics before the procedure. Everyone happy...good luck.

My Haematologist has told me to just stop Aspirin, for seven days then 24 hours after removal I can retake , I also questioned as tooth extraction is minor in my eyes, had to stop Hydroxycarbamide, Aspirin when I had a total knee replacement back in 2014 I still had a lot of bleeding, but that was a lot different from a tooth extraction. Just had bloods done and all were good. Jean
