Hello everyone! I will be grateful if you share your experience of combining anesthetics and Jakavi.
I have myelofibrosis and take Jakavi 15 mg 2 times a day. I will have an open surgery for an inguinal hernia with anesthesia with novocaine (procaine) very soon. I wanted to see if there is an interaction of procaine-novocaine with my drug Jakavi (Ruxolitinib), only one site drugbank. com says that the risk or severity of methemoglobinemia may increase when combining ruxolitinib with procaine (the same is written about lidocaine, prilocaine, ultracaine). Should I not take Jakavi before surgery?

hi Lina-rowland1, you will need to ask your haematologist and the anaesthetist this question so that they can check for any contra-indications and also, your haematologist will advise you on whether or not you will need to stop your Jakavi before the surgery, this query cannot be answered by the members of this forum as what is right for one person may not be right for another, only your haematologist can advise you. I hope all goes well with the surgery. Best wishes, Maz
Thank you so much for your answer and wishes! I tried to clarify this question with doctors, but no one can give an exact answer about this drug (Jakavi), because I am currently in a small European town. The hematologist advised not to take the drug for two days if I am afraid of interaction. (So I guess I wouldn’t take it the night before surgery) But I still feel a bit nervous😅 I appreciate your support 🙏
Sorry to say this but I think you should be very careful and get proper answers that you are completely satisfied with before doing anything, for example if you are on Jakavi 15mg twice a day for MF it may be that you shouldnt stop it abruptly, that may even be in the leaflet. Please be careful
I agree 1000% with Maz on this one, it’s not one for us on here to give our 2 cents, that’s one for the surgeon or anaesthetist and your Haem to discuss thoroughly, 🤞
Hi, lina-rowland1, although am happy to give you my experiences with this drug, I will concur with others here. If you are still unsure of your decision, maybe seek another Haematologist or MPN consultant who can advise best practise and hopefully make you feel more confident about the decision to be made.
