platelets on rise

Hello , I’m 71 and really worried been on hydroxycarbamide for 8 years now and last year my platelets started to rise and 2 days ago I had bloods done at my surgery and gone from 370 390 410 now 458 !! I got to upset !! My dose is 0ne pill for 4 days then 2 on Friday sat n Sunday !! I don’t know why ? I have felt stressed of late and run down like with cold sores I do have low ferritins also so on daily pill but my consultant not to corncerned at mo I do a blood test for her on Thursday ! is it true stress can make them rise ??

Hi BirdladyIt looks as though you've reached the stage where hydroxy isn't helping you anymore.

I'd certainly recommend Vit C for the cold sores, but I think it may be time for you to consider alternatives.

My highest platelet reading, with no meds, was 1400 with the stress during the first lockdown. When I went into surgery for my new hip, on Peg, in 2022, my platelets were something like 320.

I would definitely suggest you talk to an MPN specialist.
