hi I’m just after a bit of advice I had my right kidney removed 4 weeks ago it was removed robotically and took over 7 hours due to the size of a non cancerous tumour. I had 4 small incisions and one large one lower down which is quite big! My tummy is still very swollen and sore. Is this normal? I have read some people are back at work there is no way I could return to work at the moment. I didn’t mention that my tumour actually ruptured at the beginning of the year and I bleed internally I was very p poorly in intensive care.. although this was back in March and my operation was in December I was just wondering if this had something to do with my recovery. Any advice really appreciated . Thank you

I don’t have any specific advice, but just know everyone recovers differently. Some people bounce back quick others don’t. I would tell you take the time you need to recover and don’t compare to others as we are all different. Just talk to your doctors and listen to them and focus on your recovery.

Hi ,

I had a partial nephrectomy three years ago - they removed a malignant tumor from my kidney using full surgery with a huge incision due to the location of tumor . They said it would take 6 -8 weeks to recover . There was swelling and it took at least 3 months before I felt more normal with better mobility . This past September I had an ovary and fallopian tube removed robotically using 3 entry points and I had a very good recovery . Much faster and lot less pain . I felt very good after 2 weeks but I remember there was swelling for about 3 weeks ( and bruising ) . I was used to walking 4 km daily and was able to resume my walks within 2 weeks but at a slower pace . Good luck I hope you heal quickly but I would suggest that you see your family doctor to ease your mind and rule out any complications . We all heal at a different pace and we perceive pain differently as well .
