Sharp pain in spleen area??

My doctor appointment isn't due till a month. I'm having on and off sharp pain in left side in spleen area. I'm wondering if it's enlargement or some clots for worse. Terribly scared. Got an ultrasound abdomen in October in 2022 that showed spleen size of 10cms.

I'm wondering if anyone went through this?

I get this sometimes, often after I’ve had something to eat. I mentioned it to the haematologist and had a scan but all was ok. Call your haematologist or specialist nurse so they can take a note of it and reassure you.

Is your spleen size normal after the scan?

It was normal size. Get it checked to be on he safe side though.

hello Xuzy, sorry to hear that you are experiencing this pain. You need to speak to your doctor about this, do not wait until your next appointment with your haematologist, you must get this pain checked by your doctor. Best wishes, Maz

I experience this sometimes. I went to my GP who examined and felt my spleen. Said it was OK. It's good to get these worries checked out rather than wait for our next Haemo appt.

Sorry to hear this. Seriously, ask you GP to arrange an Ultrasound, as mine went from 10cm to 18cm in 12 months. I was getting the sharp pains while it was growing, but it's since settled down.

I'm currently waiting to find out if they want me to start other meds to start shrinking it.

How long was your pain if i may know?I've got an ultrasound 6 months back apparently and I'm thinking of mentioning it to my doctor again.

Yes, it was an intermittent strong tingle pain for me. Gets my attention for about 3 seconds every time. At it's worst, the frequency was about every 4 minutes. I reported it to my hematologist when it didn't go away. Taking 385 tylenol made no difference whatsoever. I did not find a correlation to eating nor exercise. She ordered a stat CT scan with contrast as I have had serious though past liver problems. Thankfully the results were deemed 'unremarkable.' I have never had spleen issues but there's always a first time though this one wasn't my time. Then the pain events stopped as fast as they started. So, I don't have an answer about cause to share but highly agree with others who have posted suggestion to get it checked sooner than later. An important lesson for me about having an MPN is things can go south fast. Don't put it off. It's good to know when you have an issue to deal with, as well as when you don't. MPN is fickle. Stay safe!

So basically it was nothing? And yes thank you for feedback I'm planning on asking an ultrasound abdomen next week. I usually get usgs atleast twice a year for spleen.

it was nothing according to what the radiologist reported from the CT scan. The pain was real with no identified cause before it stopped. Something caused it but for now it’s wait and see. I’m on interferon which has caused weird skin marks and occasional headaches. This pain was a body ache. Stay safe!

Same experienced many times and doc always do manual check + ultra sound. All it normal.

Some time the pain is coming from the ribs, rupture or pressed for long time while we are sleeping.

It will gone after few hours.

Do the USG for sure

I found alot of the pain was when my spleen was enlarging and same thing, pain under ribs and feeling that there was pressure on my stomach. Now I get pain if i lay on my ribs, or I've lent over and pushed on my ribs.

If your spleen has enlarged you will also has a feeling of fullness.

Sorry about the pain and your very understandable concern. The advice already posted is spot on.

I will just say that it could also be something like diverticulitis. It presents as pain in that quadrant and is generally resolved with antibiotics. But again, this should be confirmed and treated asap. More common as we get older but definitely something not to be ignored. Best wishes.

It is always worrying when new pains present themselves. I get a stitch like pain in the same area, it does not really trouble me and does not last long and can disappear for months but this pain has been on and off long before ET developed. I am going to mention it at my next appointment just to put my mind at rest but I also believe it can be related to acid reflux etc which I experience now and again.
