Hydrea contains Lactose, could it affect Lactose Tolerance?

Recently member Winchie posted on GI improvements while taking HU, noting being lactose intolerant prior to taking HU. This is a great result.

So I checked out Hydrea, and it actually contains lactose. Usually such sensitive ingredients are called out more clearly.

Active ingredient: hydroxyurea

Inactive ingredients: citric acid, gelatin, lactose, ,,,

So if you are experiencing GI issues on Hu (not unusual), it's possible you are lactose intolerant and reacting to the HU in this way. I can't find good studies on this, but could be worth looking in to since lactose intolerance is common in some areas, for example in East Asia.

Maybe it can conversely help condition the body for lactose as it apparently did for member Winchie. At least we should be informed

Lactose is only in trace amounts as an excipient. It will not have any effect at all at the dosages prescribed.

Thanks, that must be why they don't mention it as a concern.

I looked into it some more with that in mind. It seems there can be rare cases where it's a concern according to the reports below, so there is a possibility of related complications. But the more common "intolerance" is not a problem.

"Lactose is a source of glucose and galactose. If you have one of the rare genetic disordersgalactosaemia, or glucose-galactose intolerance or congenital lactase deficiency you must talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine."
