HU - one good thing

There are so many bad things about ET. I have been on HU for about 2 1/2 months. The good thing is I used to be lactose intolerant and now I can eat everything and it does not bother me. I had a lot of G.I. problems with different things that I ate. I had these problems for years and now I can’t eat all those foods that didn’t agree with me before so that is one good thing.

Interesting improvement. According to this ref, HU can contain lactose

"This drug contains lactose (milk sugar). If you have an intolerance to lactose, contact your doctor before taking this medicine" A surprise. Maybe the lactose exposure is helping somehow.

There is also a thread on this forum about it:

I've had unexpected improvement to my vision since starting Besremi, (or maybe the NAC supplement) Nice to have a good side effect sometimes.

The HU originally caused constipation but I take Metamucil every day now and I am able to drink juice, eat cheese and dairy products with no problem. I used to have IBS but HU has cured that. So in that respect it was a miracle for me. I feel so much better and I’m able to do so much more. I hope it lasts.

Hi, have been on Hydroxycarbamide for six years and have not had a migraine in all that time. Previously, I used to get several a month. Do have fatigue, occasional dizziness and bleed very easily but platelets good.

So is dizziness related to this? I felt lightheaded this morning and did not know why. I took my blood pressure and it was fine. Layed down for a while and I am OK now, back to normal

Dizziness is a common reaction to HU. online.epocrates.com/drugs/...

Whether HU was the cause of your incidence of lightheadedness is something you will have to determine. This symptom can happen for a number of different reasons. Suggest you keep track of recurrence and be sure to let your care team know if it becomes an ongoing issue.
