Insurance moan

Well, i have to vent or I will explode. As i am still pending a firm diagnosis, awaiting BMB in June and off to Dubai on Saturday for holidays, my wonderful annual travel insurance has “excluded” blood pressure, anything related to blood and endometriosis.

Baffled to say the least. My consultant kindly did a letter to explain current tests and results and these guys have no clue. Refused to accept an email copy of consultant letter and they do not revise “exclusions” once in place.

I asked for an email address to make a complaint and no, she will put my issue forward and come back in 10 days.

So moral of the story “honest does not pay”.

Still baffled at underwriters lack of knowledge, who have medical training apparently.

Vemt over. Fingers crossed I will remain well on holidays.

Reminder - when I get Dx, change insurance provider

Your lament is understandable. Unfortunately, those of us with MPNs run into ignorance about the conditions nearly everywhere we go. These are rare disorders and many medical professionals lack knowledge about them.

Insurance providers are not always primarily concerned about your health and safety. Underwriters are concerned with making money. If you are an uncertain proposition, you may not be a good risk for the company and could negatively affect their bottom line. They simply do not know how to calculate your risk and do not want to risk you being too big a drain on their capital. Unfortunately, that is just how it works.

It is what it is. You can only do so much regarding the insurance. I would do the same thing and just go and enjoy. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday.

I sympathise - insurance companies can be so useless!Different situation but last year we booked a holiday in the UK and I tried to buy cancellation insurance just in case one of us broke a leg or something and we couldn't go. I obtained two quotes, both of which included medical expenses! Had they not heard of the NHS?! And the cost, because of Myelofibrosis, which I didn't need cover for, was half the cost of the holiday!

In the end, we decided not to bother and had a great holiday 🙂

Yes Travel Insurance very difficult even if only a consultation re bloods. Stay sure are really good company & will insure cheaply but all the others I had do not want to know. Or quote a price you could fly around World on 🙈👍

I tried Staysure and if still undergoing tests, awaiting firm diagnosis, no way they will cover. See what BMB brings and enjoy the sun in meantime. Worry is flight but will run 🏃‍♀️ up and down aisle to keep that blood flowing lol
