Blood type Data from our CBC's?

I've been curious on my blood type. It would seem we should automatically have this info from our routine tests, but if so I can't find it, and could be insurance doesn't usually pay for this.

Have other members received or know how to find this info? It must be routine for transfusion patients, for for others maybe not.

It comes to mind because there have been studies of Covid vs blood type. For example

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

points to type O trending protective while type A trends to higher risk. Not much actionable here since we can't change this feature anyway.

All the studies have limitations and seem not entirely definitive, but what is in our journey?

My MPN expert drew my blood type first visit along with 12 other tubes of blood. I believe they stored some of my blood for future clinical studies, did a complete leukemia panel, CBC, CMP, Lipid, TSH plus NGS. I am B+.

Amazon sells a test kit you can do from home.

Thanks. I have seen that kit and may go for it as I'm getting used to sticking myself with the Bes. But I figure while I'm getting stuck at Hem office, I may as well add this data to it. I will send Dr a message whether we can add it to my list next week.

I do feel because I have had an interest in natural pure food and medicine yog etc. since I was 13 , (I’m now 66) I’ve managed to remain relatively unbroken .despite having health ‘challenges starting from 4 when I fainted regular . They never knew why …

Interestingly I feinted for the first time in many years about a year before being diagnosed

Blood type is actually a good thing to know. I have known I am type O since college where we typed ourselves in Biology. It has been confirmed in various surgeries. It is sometimes relevant to MPNs, such as in evaluating von Willebrand Factor levels. People with type O tend to be lower. If your doc won't run it along with the other blood work then you might as well order the kit and do it yourself.

I have likely had this info since I've had various in-patient surgeries dating to 70's. But it's not in any records I have. I expect my Dr will agree, he likes my experimental attitude, (with careful limits)

If not I will go for the retail test.

Apparently not all hematologists check for that. Out of 3 hematologists in the last 14 years, only one checked it. She confirmed I was A positive.
