Well all went well with tooth extraction on Friday, took me ages to get to dentist due to roads being blocked with downed trees damaged buses, cars and vans and very frightening high winds Biggin Hill became a no go area so had to go through the Valley and a place called Tatsfield to Westerham, which being quite low down was not too bad, but drive home was rather scary, but all done just a little sore at the moment, bleeding was also very light, but healing seems to be going alright.
Anyway enough about that, just read an article in the Sunday Mail about the shingles jab Shingrix that is now going to be offered instead of Zostavax as a very good protection for people like me who are getting on a bit against shingles 👵 and cannot have Zostavax, they say its good for people with immune compromised conditions.
Has anyone else on here had this particular jab x 2 jabs would like to know, as I need to be armed with speaking to my GP to get.
Thanks very much

Glad to hear the extraction went OK. We had some big winds here in West Virginia too. Took down a tree and powerline at my cabin by the river.
My GP has recommended the Shingrix vaccine for me. I am going to wait a bit to be well past the COVID infection and also time it so that it is not in the same time frame as a COVID booster should one be recommended.
Sounds wonderful where you live, have you had a lot of snow this year, thank god here in the south east of England we have had no snow so far, just this nasty storm Eunice worst since 1987 when we had a hurricane, but just as bad.X
We have had some snow. The ice storm was worse. it shut down I-95 (a major North-South highway) for nearly 24 hours. This windstorm was quite blustery. Cold and wind gusts u to 65 mph. Sustained winds around 30 mph.
My doctor said it was a good idea to get Shingrix vaccine. I had the first one 6 months after Covid vaccine and am due the second one anytime now. As a rule of thumb, he said to wait at least 2 weeks between any vaccine shots. I have always heard the second shot may cause flu-like symptoms for a day or two.
Yes, Shingrix, been there - done that. Both doses, with an 8 week gap between. Just another jab in the pin cushion for me, with no after effects whatsover.
I did have to stir up my GP to get them to order the doses for me so suspect I was the only person to have been given it by the practice.
Hi, glad you managed your tooth extraction with no major after effects
I also have received the two-dose Shingrix jab from my GP. I had to be quite forceful though to get it. Firstly I was told that my surgery didn't offer Shingrix, then when I was actually having my flu jab ( administered by a gp) the admin lady said they were going to give me the one dose shingles jab at the same time!
I told her I couldn’t have it and she couldn’t understand why-fortunately the doctor intervened and said I was correct. She explained the reasons to the administrator and told me they would order the Shingrix and ring me when it arrived. Both Shingrix jabs left me with a sore arm and feeling not so good for a day or two.
We really do have to be alert and learn to advocate for ourselves. Also not to be fobbed off by administration staff with no medical qualifications!
Superwoman - just had my first last Friday. Definitely more painful than the Covid jab for me with a sore arm for about a day and a day of feeling not great (aches, more fatigue) but given the experiences of friends was expecting these side effects (which is why I chose to get on a Friday going into the weekend). Feelings were very transitory and after a good nights sleep was fine the next day.
I am in Canada and received the shingrix shots about 5 years ago. My doctor suggested it because he knew I could not have live vaccines and he said shingrix lasts 15+ years. That is all they are giving people where I live now. I don’t remember any side effects from it.
Hi to all. I had the first of two shots on 2/24/2022. Some pain at site of injection, minor cold symptoms today. Well worth the minor discomfort. My best to you.
I had Shingles a few weeks after my second AstraZeneca vaccination. It was very unpleasant. I e-mailed a photograph of the rash to the practice nurse and got Acyclovir prescribed and dispensed within four hours!
I got St John’s Wort oil to apply topically and lemon balm tea the next day from a reputable site on eBay.
I am 65, have ET and take HU and aspirin.
I asked about the Shingrix vaccination which is available now on the NHS.
It cannot be given for twelve months after having Shingles.
Shingrix is prescribed under an NHS Patient Group Directive which lists who is allowed it. One of the criteria is that you have to be over 70, so I could not have it prescribed by the practice nurse.
I hope that when the twelve months is up I can persuade my GP or Consultant to allow me the Shingrix vaccination as a Patient Specific vaccination.
