Is there a best time of the day to take aspirin, HU or an interferon shot??
Just wondering if anyone has found a best time of the day for these, as to be most effective with our circadian body clock.
I use to take my aspirin in the evening but I find first thing in the morning, upon waking seems to work best for me ( Empty stomach with a full glass of water actually).
I do not, so far require other meds but may someday so looking for best practice advice for all of us, especially anyone who has successfully went into our favourite topic “ clinical remission”.
Thank you for joining my conversation, best of health to all. ❤️ ET Jak2+ 52yr F 🇨🇦 🙂

I am in "clinical remission" if measured only by blood counts, which the important ones are all in normal range.
But many posts here discuss molecular remission which requires reducing your allele burden, generally only can be done with INF.
I take HU and 81 mg aspirin late at night. Others here have posted similar dosing times. 1000 HU dose messes me up but better that be at night, 500 is not too bad.
Thank you for your reply. I listened to a few podcasts that talked about taking arthritis meds before bed because they were more effective. I am on my feet all day so my legs are not as sore when I take the 81 mg aspirin in the morning. I wish molecular remission for all, especially with the introduction of Besremi. 🙂
I have ET Jak2 + I am on interferon jabs, 45mcg weekly and take mine just before I go to bed. I tend to have a headache after so I can sleep it off and I’m fine by the morning. I also take my aspirin at night.
After only 5 months of jabs all of my blood levels are back to normal, worked really quickly for me.
Wonderful news. I am so happy for you. I was listening to a podcast that mentioned best times of the day for arthritis meds or even chemo treatment. Kind of an interesting thing to think about when taking meds. 🙂
I take my aspirin in the morning after breakfast. According to one article I read Haemoglobin higher in the morning than in the afternoon so feel that the aspirin is helping me more when my blood is probably a bit thicker. Don’t know if that is correct but I like the thought in my head. Regards Pegysus they suggest taking it at night before bed but I take mine mid morning without any side effects luckily apart from lots of wees from drinking so much water😅.
Aspirin can be hard on the stomach. Full glass of water is a good idea. I immediately eat after taking the AM dose of aspirin to protect my stomach. HU can be taken with or without food. It can be very hard on the GI system. I favored with food. PEG is injected so food is not relevant. Hydration is definitely relevant for all three of these meds. Stay well hydrated. Your kidneys will thank you!
Time of day seems to be very individual. We are each different in how we react. I took HU right before breakfast. Had to stop the HU due to adverse effects. I usually inject PEG mid-day. PEG has been way better for me. Very effective and no adverse effects. I had to cut my aspirin dose in half (40.5mg) to prevent excessive hemorrhaging.
Thank you Hunter, I always enjoy your response and your wealth of information. You have been on this medical journey for many years and I am learning from you. I have only been diagnosed for a year but have had high platelets since my last child was born, 16 years ago. When I first learned of cancer in me I was devastated. I switched hematologist immediately on your advice and found an MPN specialist. That advice alone is the best advice. Working together with someone who is on your side is great. This chat and group of fighters has been so important to shifting back and out of being a victim. Than you 🙂
Hi, I take HU for PV. I take mine in the morning on a empty stomach with a full glass of water and then sip water the rest of the day. I take it on a empty stomach because it does not bother me and my theory is that I want it absorbed 100% if that is possible and I hope that it will prevent needing a higher dose just in case taking it with food might prevent some of it from being absorbed and necessitate a higher dose. That is just my theory, I have no proof of that and the literature says to take with or without food. I take aspirin with food. Good luck to you.
Thanks for you information. I am sure each body is different, so each reaction is also different. I love your theory because it is helping you, that the best part. 🙂When I started aspirin it gave me horrible heartburn with food, but that all settled down once I had a Doctor on my side inside, it’s all related.
Hi I used to take all my meds at night so that whilst sleeping you are oblivious of side affects. With Peg I don’t feel anything until about 6 hours later so I try and take it early afternoon.
