I’ve just started medication this week and not sure if I should be taking it all at the same time or different times of the day.
I am taking 1 apixaban (blood thinners) and 1 allopurinol (anti gout) in the morning after breakfast then 1 apixiban and 1 500 mg hydroxy after tea. (Also paracetamol for spleen pain😢)
When is best time to take them and should I be taking allopurinol and hydroxy at same time of day rather than splitting them?
Thanks Louise x

Hi Louise, when I was on 1500mg hydroxy it really got to me mid day. I also took three capsules at once in the evening at that stage. My haem told me to split the dosage, one in morning and two in evening. The key is consistency. if you are unsure, speak to your doctor about it.
I am on 3 tablets (1,500mg) daily and I take them all at 7pm. I experimented on the best time to eat and found a couple of hours before Hydroxy works best. Meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, Omeprazole and Edoxaban blood thinner I take at 9am. Works for me. I have attached the Hydroxy timing to watching a regular tv programme to help me remember. I have a Reminder in my mobile for the morning ones !!!! All the best for working out your own Plan.
I take one hydroxy one day and two the next - alternating through the week. Also take low dose aspirin and clopidogrel (anti platelet). My haemo said it didn’t matter when I took them, so I take everything at the same time which is in the morning - with a very large glass of water. I also drink at least 1.2 litres of water per day which we are all apparently supposed to do to help flush things through our system.
I agree with Maz. You should talk to the pharmacist. You also need to see how the hydroxy is affecting you. Everyone reacts differently to medication and It’s important to see how the other pills interact with each other. At the moment, I take 1000 mg hydroxy, 10 mg jakafi, and one baby aspirin all together in the evening and then 10 mg jakafi in the morning. That’s just what works best for me. Good luck,
