variation in JAK 2 platelet count

How much change from time to time (over 6-8 months ) can occur without being alarming? My platelet count has been 570, 582, 604 over the last many months. I am on aspirin only. The doctor says getting the alliele burden number is not significant.

Doesn't seem significant to me.

This variation is pretty normal. I have my platelets changing in the range between 580 to 780

Hi, that is not a lot at all. I was told that counts can change 10% each time you have them. My platelets have been up and down over the last 5years, from 601 to 900, at present at 701. Bloods next month so will see.

The platelet range is not within normal limits.... my platelets were at the highest 601 and I have been started on hydroxy.... it has been explained to me that you could

Have the lowest number of platelets but still have extreme symptoms.... not everyone are the same.

That looks like normal variation. Your platelet counts are relatively low for ET, so as long as you are not otherwise symptommatic, you may be very mildly affected by the ET. Your mutant allele burden is likely low, but it would still be good to know what it is. It does help predict the course of the MPN.

Thank you to everyone who responded. Also, what do RDW and other CBC scores indicate.? My scores are all within range except for a slight elevation in RDW. I have no ongoing symptoms. Still on low aspirin therapy.

RDW is red blood distribution width, aka the space in between them. If they with increased width, you MCV value should be higher than norm also.

My numbers swing up and down between 200 pets.. and I have been on Hydroxyurea for just over a year. I was told that was normal. Check with your dr. Sure hope you do better. This support community is awesome!
