Vaccine on Monday any difference between AstraZeneca vs Pfizer

Sunny699 profile image

I have been booked for my vaccine on Monday, I have ET Calr with fairly high platelets, only on Asprin..

Is there any difference between the two considering the condition?

From what been posted in the news:

AstraZeneca may cause blood clots

Pfizer may not been very effective for blood conditions especially if the second dose is late...

Any thoughts on the matter? Should I been asking if I can have one over the other (may not even be possible)

And any personal experiences with either and side effects?

Thanks

I think it's unlikely you will be given a choice.

The blood clot occurrence was apparently no more than in an unvaccinated population. Jo

I believe side effects like that old codswallop, am down for brain surgery soon, so have faith in medical help to not worry about any blood clots, got jabs early probably knowing medical help ASAP. Got my first jab. 9th Feb second instalment 27th April. Astra Zeneca. 👍👍

I had the AstraZeneca yesterday . Injection was painless , sit for 15 mins after incase of side effects. None yesterday but slight sore arm (normal) head and mild nausea through the night all known side effects.

I’ve previously had 2 tia am 40 now and thankfully none in over ten years. I have experienced numbness in my face and arm due to the tia it’s.not something I would want to live permanently with.

I would rather take the vaccine side effects than those of Covid or long Covid who knows how permanent those may be.

There will not be any choice in the matter. Almost all clinics are giving the astra zeneca vaccine at the moment.

Had AZ last month, wasn’t given a choice. (on Pegasys and aspirin, ET Jak2,), My platelets are constantly higher than normal 600-700 but I had no problems.

I can understand countries being cautious, they have to be seen to be doing so. However millions upon millions of AZ jabs have been given out worldwide with only a small number of issues, which arent even proven to be connected to the jab itself.

Likewise the study on Pfizer was on such a small group it will take months for a more accurate study to be undertaken.

By then it will be to late if it turns out 12 week gap is to long . Don’t forget, Pfizer recommended 3 week gap

You won’t have a choice in the day. Depending where you go for jab will determine which you will get.

Hi Mart456

If you're in the UK I recommend watching this Horizon. Dr Chris Van Tulleken (a UK virologist specialising in infectious diseases) & his brother Dr Chris Van Tulleken explore the vaccines. He spoke on the One Show, ahead of the Horizon program being aired, and said the MOST important thing was to receive the vaccine.

My husband & I received the AZ vaccine on Thur (I'm ET JAK2+). I was asked about blood thinning meds. All went well.

We were amazed at the impressive organisation of it all and it is incredible how the scientific community has worked phenomenally hard to get us to this point!

I hope you have a good experience too!

I've been wondering about the vaccines for our conditions

I have ET with platelets consistently high . I am on Aspirin only. As the purpose of the aspirin is to reduce the the risk of blood clots that should provide some protection ? There isn't really any clear evidence that the A-Z vaccine caused these blood clots - they might have happened anyway (without the vaccine) in the people affected .I had the Oxford A-Z vaccine and had sore arm, headache, sore muscles, slight temperature but was fine after 2 days. The question for me is what level of immunity are we going to build and will we be tested to find out if we do have any protection or not ?

I think you raised a good question- regarding immunity levels in MPN patients. My understanding is that a 60% immunity is good and what the medical researchers were hoping for.

Pfizer and AZ have surpassed that significantly.

My heamo team say the pros far out way the cons.

They are learning all the time.

I had AZ yesterday and no side effects whatsoever - not even a sore arm! I have ET, daily aspirin and high platelet count.

Had the AstraZeneca vaccine yesterday, so far no side effects.

Having looked into the stats, I.e 30 problems in over 10 million doses , and that responses on this and other forums do not highlight any issues, I'm quite comfortable the risk is extremely low.

More likely with those stats to be EU flase news than anything else.

I am interested in the overall effectiveness and whether it will provide lasting immunity, I will probably pay for a antibody test to check in 3-4 weeks.

Anyone else got an antibody test after the vaccine?

Is this something mpn could be monitoring?

My husband and I have agreed to household monthly antibody tests as part of research by “Virus Watch Team” UCL . First pack arrived yesterday. ( finger prick test ) I think we will also be emailed the results.
