Families of the most vulnerable need vaccines now

I was worried after reading this article. Four weeks after vaccination Sean O’Neill’s antibody test for research showed no antibodies. He suggested that it was because of his medication for blood cancer.

I registered 2.1 versus 0.8 threshold after 20 days from Oxford jab. I have compromised immune system (very low T cells, Lymphocytes and WBC) so worked for me.
I have good immunoglobulins so this implies good B cells, which produce immunoglobulins/antibodies.
Hence my layman’s interpretation is that B cells are a critical factor and perhaps this is the problem with the person you refer to. As far as I’m aware, MPNs are not generally associated with compromised B cells?

I think its too much to call for vaccination of the most vulnerable without any firm evidence on protection levels.
One persons results arent enough to take vaccines away from people who may need them more to give them to what may be quite healthy people.
There is a study underway on protection levels in people with compromised immune systems but its not likely to be until later this year at the earliest the results are issued.
It may affect how future vaccinations are carried out.
Studies have shown that the FLU jab is worth having, even for people with compromised immune systems, so i would expect for most people, even if its s lower level of protection, then there will be some.
I understand things like this are concerning but i guess its a reason why we are being asked to shield still even though we have had the vaccine.
The more people vaccinated lessens our risk anyway even if our own levels of protection are low.

Would it be sensible for people with blood cancers to have an antibody test a few weeks after the vaccination?
I would be happy to volunteer for research into immunity.
I am in the process of watching the above YouTube presentation and in it it is claimed that the response to the virus is more than just antibodies and even if you are showing minimal antibody response that doesn’t necessarily mean you are not protected. I have not yet watched the third part of this presentation which specifically discusses vaccine response in individuals who have reduced immunity. I plan to do so today
I gave blood for a Covid antibody study. The forms were signed by my consultant. How vexing that the volunteers don’t get their result. It would have been reassuring to be told that I had a good response.
I had to have the Rubella vaccination and blood tests again and again as a Midwife as I “lost” my immunity.
