No antibodies fear after C19 vaccine

I spoke to my GP regarding the reports of people with MPDs not developing antibiodies following Covid vaccine. She said there was no empirical evidence of this in the literature. I fel slightly reassured but wish I'd been offered a test to check

Hello lynnieb,

that's what I heared as well. As far as I understand it heavily depends on whether you are already on some kind of cytoreductive medication (and so influencing/suppressing your immune system) or not.

In case you are doing watch and wait I wouldn't worry at all.

Are you on any medication?

Cheers!

I'm MDS/MPN, on Watch and Wait with aspirin, and my haematologist said that I was immunosuppressed - perhaps that is because of age because I can see nothing in my bloods that would indicate that. I can't get an antibody test; my GP said she hadn't heard of them.

That's interesting... we are having a discussion about antibodies and tests in my local support group right now as well. I'll keep you posted about what they find out.

Antibody test should be known IMHO... strange...

Thanks - I'm in the UK.

I am not on any meds apart from aspirin and I have been told by my haematologist that I am still very vulnerable. The immune bloods may look alright, but I guess they may get a harder hit for some reason.

I should have the results of the antibody test by Monday and will post. I’m very concerned as we are having a huge spike in cases in my state (Arkansas.) The region I live in has high vaccination rates, but the rest of the state doesn’t. I’ve returned to limiting my outings and wearing a mask.

Can you post the results?

Yes. I sure hope I have antibiodies, as we all do. I’ve been enjoying getting out and about.

I attended a ‘staff shielding support group’ (I work for the nhs), this week with the chief exec and asked the question why we couldn’t all have the full antibody testing (inc T cell response), he said that because of how it’s analysed there are few places where this can happen and nowhere local (north east). A question was then posed to us ‘what would we do differently if we either have or don’t have antibodies?’ He has a point, his advice was very much that we’re best to think like we don’t have any and remain cautious.

Hi,I think our antibodies just take a little longer to develop.

My husband and I are part of an ONS study and we had our Pfizer jabs at the same time. 6 weeks after our first jabs he was positive and I was negative. However, I have since developed antibodies - so it just took a little longer!

While in limbo, and stressed, I paid for a Test for All, and that showed a result of 300. Subsequent ONS test showed positive.

I have post ET MF on Ruxolitinib 15mg x 2.

Hope this is reassuring, though I'm still taking great care now that we have so much Alpa variant in London.

I have just had my second antibodies test with ONS and once again it came back positive for Antibodies for both me and my husband. I spoke with my Haematology nurse this week and she also confirmed that other patients with an MPN have antibodies and some have not they feel it could be to do with which drugs we are on myself I am on Hydroxycarbamide and have ET JAK 2 positive, she also told me that although I have antibodies still to be very careful when out and about which I am doing anyway.Jean

I guess if no research has been done - she would be correct - definitely no empirical evidence!!Could you please ask her to show you the research to back up her claims. People get really tricky with their answers.

I ordered a test for antibodies from Testing for All (I have no other connection to this company). Because of various circumstances I have done two tests now several weeks apart. Yesterday’s results are similar to the first test and show that I have an antibody score of 25. While this is not brilliant it is better than nothing and I don’t think they yet know how antibody levels correlate to reaction to the Covid virus infection. My haematologist commented that as my leukocyte level is near normal I should get a decent protection levelI have post ET MF and I’m taking 20mg Ruxolitinib twice a day. When all the restrictions are lifted I will be remaining very cautious and my family will continue to do lateral flow tests before meeting up with me. I will continue to shop for groceries online as our nearest supermarket is in a popular holiday destination.

I will definitely be up for a booster jab when they are available and hope to get something different from the original AZ vaccine I’ve had

Stay safe and keep well everyone

Best wishes, Jan

This clarifies what researchers are seeing as of now on MPN's. Eleven PV patients - didn't track the numbers on the others.

It’s too early to tell. The real question here is, „Is there any study being done and a few hundred of us having their antibodies checked a few weeks after the 2nd vaccine! Basically, has anyone tried to gather evidence. The fact that there’s no info, there’s either nothing done or no study that is finished. I will have my second Pfizer and I’ll definitely get myself tested for ABs, even if I have to pay for it myself.

I had to pay $50 for the test and it was worth every penny to know I did develop antibodies.
