The Kings College , St Thomas and crick institute work showing that having a blood cancer seriously negates the efficacy of a single Pfizer vaccination is woefully small and incomplete. There is a very urgent need to show that the second dose does improve efficacy and include astro Zeneca otherwise us blood cancer patients will never know if we are safe and able to mix in society once the barriers come down. Who is going to pick up the ball and check this out properly. At the moment its just mischievous.

Hello , I have just read you letter and fully agree with your sentiments about 'US', are we protected or not, I have had the Oxford Jab but now wonder if I will always have to cover my face or will I be safe when all opens up which where I live in the Channel Islands is going to be very soon. Those in charge should be aware of our problems and put our minds at rest. I had my jab early March because I am MPN, next one has been put back until late April, two weeks further away from my original appointment. Friends are saying , yippee, we can all meet up . But the question is CAN I? and still be certain I am protected. worry , worry , worry.
Blood Cancer UK have issued a response to this study on their website, it also includes a video interview with Dr Piers Patton, one of the researchers behind the study, who discusses that more studies are being undertaken, you can read the response here
to add more this is what Blood Cancer UK advise ", it’s vital that people with blood cancer continue to be cautious and shield themselves as much as possible. If you have blood cancer and have had the vaccine, you cannot assume that it’s given you protection."
I think even after vaccination, we still have to be caution and sensible in the public weather we are cancer patients or not. The vaccine is just like the flu jab, give us stronger resistance, we still can catch a flu eve after flu jab, and covid19 vaccine is the same. Still better to have it no matter what. I've been worrying about that too, but no think we have much choice.
We can't all continue with our lives without knowing what protection we have against Covid ( If any ). Surely it would be possible to test for T Cells, B Cells, Antibodies and whatever else in those patients with Blood cancers ? We are all having blood tests on a regular basis so it should be relatively straightforward . The alternative is that we don't know if we can go out, meet people and are effectively shielding forever. We need definitive answers on this.
Don't forget as it's been proven the vaccine helps prevents transmission, even if our own protection levels are lower then by default once everyone is vaccinated we all are in receipt of protection.
what I object to is publishing at least incomplete science and at best and at worst deliberately scaremongering , it only achieves worry with no apparent benefit, I suspect in an attempt to get funding to finish it properly
Where does the latest advise on Astro Zeneca Vaccine leave us bloodies especially if we have already had the first dose of AZ it says ask your doctors.
I have the same question... depressing isn’t it! I’m due the second AZ next Monday. I’ve made appointments with podiatrist, optometrist, hairdressers and not sure if I should cancel all or say to hell and take a chance!
I was just going to ask the same question. As a ‘younger’ patient I would now not be allowed the AZ in many countries and do we count in the clotting risks? I have continued to go to work throughout and not shielded but would rather know before my second dose.
