I have had ET for some years now and am on aspirin. I have noticed more recently that if I exercise, even lightly, I ache for days afterwards, to the point I end up taking painkillers. Does anyone else suffer from this?

Exercise and Prolonged Pain
I’m afraid I can’t relate to what you experience I actually feel better for having done exercise. Mind you with the restrictions of gyms and classes along with the recovery of a broken wrist and a meniscus tear my exercise regime has been non existent for months. I’m actually dreading trying to swim. Something I will be attempting within the next 7 days. I wonder if I’ll get into my bathing costume.🙄
Jenny_F, exercise creates lactic acid which if the body is unable to clear will cause muscle pain. Magnesium is an important component to managing it and will also improve athletic performance. Magnesium creates enzymes needed to activate vitamin D and thiamine which are going to clear lactic acid. You will also be interested to know magnesium prevents platelets from sticking together. If your still hurting today, put a pound of Epsom salts in a warm tub of water with a tablespoon of baking soda and soak for 20 minutes. Always consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.

Hi there, Yes, I have the same problem. BUT my pain in not in my mucles, it feels in my bone. Most in my hip and that goes on for days. Once I thought that I would give it a go for a week or so. I did some exercise even if I knew I would have a sleepless night. After that week I could just about walk! I did not do any hard heavy training and I warmed up before , did streching after... I still try to do something everyday but it is a pain afterwards. I have a fitness bike, bought an electric bike for outdoors, I have weights, elastic training bands, a twistboard and very good walking shoes to go for walks in.,(usually between 20-45minutes) My doctor says that it is very common this type of pain.
Mmmm, I had very similar to this, spoke to my doctor about it the first time 4 years ago. Bone pain, not muscle, and very much affecting my right hip. Steadily this got worse, to where I was limping at the end of a work shift to halfway through one. I stopped running because of the pain and recovery time impacted too much. A year and a half ago I was finally sent for an x-ray that showed I needed a complete hip replacement aged 52. I have a minor birth defect that caused my hip to wear a bit more, but the medical opinion is that it would have progressed much more slowly had I not 'gotten' ET. Haematology said I probably would have not needed a hip replacement until a more average age for procedure, had it not been for the ET accelerating the inflammatory process.
It is related to my ET in that it caused the inflammation in my hip to worsen much more rapidly than it would if I did not have ET, and thus my hip joint to deteriorate at a rapid rate.
Because I need a hip replacement, any time standing/being upright causes pain, as my hip is carrying my body weight, and any weightbearing impacts. at the beginning I could definitely go for a while before the pain came, and that slowly deteriorated to having pain generally, with it worsening whenever I do anything upright.
I can't diagnose you, but can suggest you go back to the doctor to get it investigated further.
This may be nothing to do with what is going on for you, but your description of the pain does remind me of my early days trying to figure what was going on.
Hope you get some other insights/ideas from others, hope you can get this sorted x
