I Have had ET for 16 years and am 79 years of age. I do like to try and keep fit but no longer have the energy to go to a gym.
I know we are not allowed to advertise in this forum but I wanted to tell you that I keep fit through a weekly yoga class for the over 50's. This is done through Zoom and can be carried out almost anywhere in the world providing you have a computer and the Zoom app. This is based in the UK but I live in Australia and because it is recorded, I can do the classes to suit myself. Sometimes I am so tired, I have to wait a couple of days or so after the recording had been made!
The teacher specialises in gentle relaxation and exercises for the elderly. She does not charge a specific fee for these service but simply asks for a donation.
If anyone is interested in this amazingly relaxing way of keeping fit, please send me a priviate message and I will send you a link,
Best wishes to all my fellow MPNers,
Katie
PS. The classes begin again in September.

Great idea Katie....I am trying to follow one that my daughter does, the teacher has been on line during lockdown.Like you it depends on the day....so very hot just now ,impossible for me.Manage a walk very early with dogs, but come back exhausted .How do you manage in Your hot times....?My dear friend who passed away last year at 94 did yoga.....was very fit and well.
Unfortunately an incurable cancer reared its ugly head.
Thank you so much for your reply. We have corresponded before, many moons ago. I had a mobile home in the South of France so we sort of connected. Sadly, I have had to leave that behind as I can no longer make long haul flights.
Yoga is a great way to keep supple and exercise the creaky bones. I particularly like the recorded sessions as we never know how we are going to feel at a given time.
When it is very hot here I use the air conditioning but it is winter at the moment. I am wearing a thick cardigan and cover up with a blanket for shivasana!
Sorry to hear about your dear friend. She certainly sounded as if she lived life to the full. Cancer is not very kind or selective about the lives it takes.
I live permanently in Australia now and have joined the newly formed forum here. It is run by an amazing guy called Steve. You may have seen him on the UK forum, under the name of Socrates.’ We do not have many members yet but you could always look us up and offer some of your advice to people just diagnosed.

Would love some MPNers from other countries to join in.
Sounds like a great idea for many MPNers. In a similar vein, I practice Qigong. Different system, but based on many of the same principles. In addition to the physical benefits, both practices promote mindfulness and are very good for dealing with the stresses we face. My Sifu (teacher) is also moving into the on-line training world, especially in these COVID modified times.
Sounds like a great idea to me, please send me the details...
I believe that Yoga is also very good for developing core body strength, and that is something that would also aid me w/ my cycling too...
Incidentally, Merry has just called me to let me know that both her & her daughter have just joined the gym... Makes me think Spring is in the air once more 'Down Under'...
Yoga with Adrrienne on YouTube is great. there are so many different levels and lengths of time on offer. I have used this for a long time and find her exceptional.
Thank you for your reply and recommendation JackLina. I suggested this particular yoga teacher for those who are elderly and may have had hip replacements ,arthritis or be older and need special attention. Alix is brilliant at this and will try to include postures suitable for all.
Hope you are not too unwell with your MPN and it was very kind of you to reply.
You're very welcome. Like all of us, I have good days and bad but find sleep to be the best healer. We all suffer with sleeplessness, I think, when taking these drugs but the difference in general outlook is incredible with a decent night's sleep, I find.
I absolutely agree with you about sleep. For many years I took HU and had a dreadful sleep patten. I was then changed to Anagrelide which was even worse. Then on to Busulfan. Finally on Peg Interferon even though I am 79. Amazing new start for me. Early days but sleep patterns are so much better and bloods are fairly normal,
Have a wonderful consultant here in Australia and amazingly, I found her through the UK forum. She doesn’t judge me by age. Only by my general health and my will to survive.
