The fish

We have four goldfish in the pond. We have to keep it covered unfortunately as the seagulls pinch the fish! The fish have just eaten the last of the frog spawn so not sure if any tadpoles have survived! Nature. Kindest regards Aime xx😻😻

That’s a shame but still looks great. You said seagulls Aime are you near the coast? 😸x

I expect the gulls will come so far inland. I know someone who detests the herons for grabbing their fish 🐟xx

Well if it's not seagulls its herons. My friend lost 25 in one night to a heron recently. Hope you keep yours safe. Sue

Yep we have to do something similar- I created a little pond leading into the gold fish pond. I know we have frogs but rarely do I see spawn. When I have I’ve removed some and placed in a bucket only to return it when tadpoles develop. Goldfish are not indigenous to the uk. So this is my way of helping to balance the situation. Really I should just keep it a wildlife pond but I love seeing the fish.

I have an outdoor pond full of goldfish and tropical fish - which seem to survive our mild winters. Kookaburras sometimes nab a few of the fish though!

We had a lovely pond but a heron wiped out all the koi we had. We filled it in a couple of years ago, but I miss it. I need to get some sort of water feature, instead of just a bird bath.

Several years ago we lost a pond full of koi to herons while we were on vacation. Made me so sad. A raccoon got a 20’ koi that we got when it was only 4’ long. 😩 our granddaughter had named it Goliath. I put a shelter on one end so the new ones could hide. Haven’t lost any in 15 years. 😃😍

That’s good you’ve solved the problem. We don’t like having the fencing over the pond but even our cats (when they were young) managed to hook a fish! There was snow on the ground and I was defrosting a circle of ice on the pond and stood on something. I looked down and saw blood and though I had cut my foot through my boot but once I moved it, I found the remains of a fish and a guilty-looking kitten peering at me!

Kindest regards Aime x😻

😔. My gremlin (bishon /chihuahua) LOVES to watch them. She’ll spend a good hour running around the pond ‘chasing’ them. Falls in once in awhile. When we go on walks she runs to the ponds to watch them..... no fish in the ponds! Have no idea what she’d do if she ever caught one. Unfortunately I’m afraid she would kill it. She’s quite the 15 lb hunter! She’s brought into the house mice and a possum. Left a squirrel on the patio. I know that’s what dogs do but it makes me so sad....even the mice. 😩.

Joe and I spent two of the best weeks in Scotland several years ago even tho I contacted an upper respiratory infection while there. Never got a chance to go back before he died. I want to go back sooooo badly. A little leery of traveling that far by myself though at 77. I think in a former life I was a highlander😍. IN LOVE with Scotland. Stay safe.

Same to you. Stay safe and well and come back to Scotland once this is over. It will still be here and depending where you live just now and where you want to go in Scotland, flights are not too bad. Kindest regards Aime xx😻😻

PS we stay not far from Inverness airport.
