Hello, is high potency fish oil contraindicated with ET+JAK2pos? Been researching and conflicting reviews etc. Just wondered if anyone takes it?

I take 1100mg x2 a day. Guys hospital said it was fine to take with Hydroxy. I have JAK 2 pos. As well I’ve taken for several years without a problem

Thanks, do we stop Aspirin when starting Hydroxy? I’m a newbie and have BMB on 24/10.

Fish oil can have benefits but they are sometimes exaggerated. Quality control is a significant issue with supplements so using a reliable source is important.

It is the norm to stay on aspirin when taking hydroxycarbamide. It appears you are taking both. Fish oil does not interact with hydroxycarbamide but does have an interaction with aspirin. Fish oil can potentiate the blood thinning effect of aspirin and other medications. This does not mean you cannot take it but it is a caution worth noting. You would need to monitor how you respond and modify treatment as needed.

Suggest reviewing your treatment plan with an Integrative or Functional medicine doctor if you wish to use complementary health interventions in addition to conventional medicine. It is also very important to let your MPN Care Team know everything you are taking. This is precisely what it do to ensure that I make informed decisions.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks for your reply. Not taking Hydroxy yet. Have a BMB on 24th Oct and next appointment 4th Nov to discuss further.

Curious. How would one know our blood is too thin if taking low dose aspirin & fish oil? Is the only way to know is a bleeding event? Something on the CBC?

there is a test you can get to find out if your blood is getting too thin. I do not remember the name of it but you could research that or have your oncologist or MPN specialist research it for you.
