Mutation's role in blood cancers revealed by ideal team-up

Hey everyone... :D

Just thought that I would share this one with all of you...

When we are diagnosed, our prognosis usually depends upon which MPN condition, (which are believed to be caused by our 'DRIVER' mutations), however what other more adverse cell mutations might come into play can also have some bearing...

For instance, I have one that is known as 'ASXL1' and it usually suggests a worse prognosis going forward...

However, there are many others too, and one of those is the subject of this study, and it is called 'SRSF2'

What the researchers of this article may have discovered is how to prevent the 'Splicing' of this, (and theoretically any other cell mutation), in the RNA chain of Human DNA etc...

In most cases the Splicing of cells helps to form useful Proteins that our biology benefits from. However, in our cases (MPNs & Blood Cancers), its often the opposite effect and it adds to our problems...

These researchers believe that they may have found a way to prevent this process from taking place, in the case of 'SRSF2', and the theory is if it works on one, it may also on another...?

Enjoy the read, and there is a small Youtube too...

Best wishes

Steve

Thanks Steve, not sure I totally understand this but it sounds very promising. I have ET and my brother in law died a year ago from AML which had mutated from ET, so this sort of research is very pertinent to our family. Thanks for all your research.

Hey Tessa... :-)

Really sorry for your loss...

Yes, any new research that might eventually lead to new ways to unlock a permanent cure are most welcome. The science of genes, and how they function in human biology is really going to be an interesting unfolding over time, in my view...

Best wishes

Thanks Steve for your kind thoughts. Derek was my husband’s younger brother, they were very close, he was a lovely man and the first anniversary of his death is tomorrow.

Thanks for this. New things are being discovered all the time aren't they?

You are most welcome Cassie... :-)

Yes, it is a positive development. In my view, the science of human biology will eventually find a way around understanding most things that cause these and other conditions we suffer from...

Keep smiling... 8-)
