Collagen wipes me out

It puts me on the couch with no energy. It causes my platelets to rise quickly. One month on daily collagen shot my platelets up 200,000. I saw a post from a woman who said Collagen caused her platelets to go up. I put two and two together. I got off the Collagen, my platelets dropped and I got my energy back. Bone broth wipes me out too.

Glad you are feeling better and found out what was the cause of symptoms.Ive been taking Collegan powder on and off for some time . It didn't occur to me to find out if it was nt a good idea.. After reading up on platelets and the supplement I'm stopping too.

Does anyone know if people without an MPN would have same response ?

I’ve been taking collagen for about a year, my platelets are already very high, and it has made no difference to readings at all.

Me too, although my platelets have never been higher than 560, pre and post treatment.

I’ve been taking collagen for a few years now and haven’t found it changes my blood work. My MPN is aware I’m taking it and they haven’t advised stopping it. How does it affect platelets? Are you taking any meds for ET?

Same here and I’ve got ET with CALR type 2 post 4 years of Peg. I tried collagen thinking it might be good for me. It seems pretty weird. I’m thinking it’s doing that since my immune system is out of whack likely from the 4 years of Peg.

Other potentially random stuff does it too like vitamin D and B12. I have to take a nap a couple hours after either.

There’s probably a link but I’ve not figured it out yet. One theory I’ve come to is that CALR is extra immune system driven?

Years ago I could take D or B12 without the slightest bit of problem.

Thanks so much for this info. I wanted to take collagen awhile back but did a bit of research & found it might affect platelets so decided not to. It’s such a delicate balance. I’m 58, Essential Thrombocythemia w/ CALR. Diagnosed at age 53

Having read above comments it's clear , as with so many things , we all respond differently. I'm going to stop for a while and see if there is a difference . Not stop making bone broth when I get a chicken , every few weeks .

And definitely not avoid delicious crispy chicken skin !!!!
