Hi not been on here for a while due to my mother being ill. I’m having really bad night sweats, and just wondered if anyone else suffered with them. I have ET Jak2+ and take hydroxy, I know it could be the menapause as I’m 53, but just wondered if there worse because of my condition or the meds? Thanks Jackie

I’d be really interested to hear from folks on this too. I’m 63 and past menopause, have ET no mutations, and take HU. Lately lots of might sweats. They used to be regular, then appeared to have stopped but now happen again. They are a total PITA!

I think it could be menopause and/or the MPN

I would say that it is the menopause, the night sweats can go on for years, mine come and go still, I can wake up in the night drenched, and I am 70 this year I hasten to add I do not feel it 🤪 I find drinking lots of water helps, also find if I have a glass of wine that can trigger a sweat 😓 even now. I have ET JAK 2 positive told six years ago, and my menopause started in my forties, tried all natural remedies to no avail, but as the years have gone on the symptoms have subsided, now just the occasional hot flush at night.

By taking the Hydroxycarbamide I would say that the night sweats are no greater than they were before I was told I had ET which I think I have had many years before I was diagnosed.

Hey Jackie & everyone... :-)

Sorry to throw a damper on those theories... but... I definitely do not suffer from menopause, (is there a male menopause?), and I have struggled with cold sweats for quite sometime as I recall... Many years, and well before I was ever diagnosed too...

I believe that possibly could mean that I have been suffering with an MPN for a lot longer than I might have first realised, as a number of my symptoms have been present on my journey for quite some time...

Best wishes

Steven

Hi Jackie

I have ET, no mutations, diagnosed 2 1/2 years and started on Hydroxycarbamide straight away and suffer from night sweats. I am 40 and not going through the menopause.

Some nights are terrible and others not too bad, even when we have had a really cold night I end up kicking the covers off and have to wipe the sweat off with a flannel!

The doctors believe I could have had ET for possibly 10 years before diagnosis, not sure if this has any impact on my symptoms though?

Best wishes

Becky

I have night sweats on hydroxy. They used to be every night and were drenching, but since reducing my dose they have improved a little. Karen

Hi Jackie

I have PV Jak2+ diagnosed back in 2014. At the time of diagnosis I was also menopausal and thought the night sweats I was suffering were menopause related...but not so. The menopause is way past for me but the night sweats continue. I heat up like a furnace! It doesn't happen during the day and I've tried sleeping with just a cotton sheet over me at night but I still boil. My PV is treated with Aspirin and venesection so for me it's not a side effect of medication.

When I had my first appointment with a haematologist-prior to my diagnosis of ET Jak2 positive- it was one of the first questions he asked me. I assumed it was relevant?

Yep I’ve noticed I’m getting more small hot flushes recently too.

I have PV and take hydroxy. I'm post menopause. I do experience overheating at night from time to time. It seems to come and go.

Hi Grumpyfairy,

I had a lot of this before my diagnosis. I thought it was my approaching menopause, but 2 years later at 54, I can still get pregnant! ☺️

I do a lot to clean out my body from toxins, etc. and also steer clear of all chemicals in my environment. I have a feeling, this was the reason for less or no more night sweats. In the last months, where I wasn’t able to stay on a clean diet and was travelling that started a bit again. I have a feeling that the sweating also has to do with the body trying to get rid of stuff that doesn’t belong in it, even if it’s our meds. My trick, a 1/2 hours bath with detox salts 1-2x per week. Best is 1 hour before you take meds as not to influence their effect. That keeps my lymphatic system happy. Hope to have given you a new view. Anag 🙂
