Hi, I have PV and being treated with hydroxycarbamide 1000/1500mg alternate days. This seems to be keeping main bloods under control apart from a steady increase in my MCV level. When I last saw my haematologist 3 months ago he was very relaxed about it, saying it was only to be expected when on hydroxycarbamide. 3 months later it continues to rise and I just wonder at which point he decides on a different approach . I see him again next week and just wondered if anyone else had this problem ! Many thanks, Paddy.

High mcv is a feature rather than an issue. When I started HU, the doctor joked that he could tell I was taking my medicine by checking the mcv.
Yes, my MCV has gone slightly above range since beginning hydrea. I only take one tablet Monday to Friday.
Hi, a high MCV of over 100 does indicate pernicious anemia, maybe after yesterday's post of vitamin B12 deficiency you should ask for your B12 to be checked out. If it is b12 deficiency it is easily rectified. Best of luck.
