Three years ago, I was 'pushed' into PIP, about £9000 a year! Then my "dentist" has 'persuaded' me to 'join' their plan, whereby I have a checkup every six months, but any fillings, crowns etc, I have to pay for, [I was given a crown recently but told that since it was done on the NHS, later quietly the difference of my 'discount' was later taken out of my account, without my knowledge!] I was also given the dubious privilege of seeing a Hygeniest every four months, [I have epilepsy, and fractured my skull, a coincidence when joining this new union of dentist and Hygeniest, a weak moment in my life?] a 'set' date is given, I told them later, I could not attend this appointment [my nephew's birthday party] but was charged for not attending! This Hygeniest tells me to go on a 'new' toothpaste or a new electric toothbrush, my local chemist has told me since the toothpaste has stopped being produced {tasted awful!}, the toothbrush was rubbish, my chemist friend recommended a different one, all she does is scrub my teeth, and advise me of my 'diet', {How can I go on a specialist diet on PIP?}, my Hygeniest tells me my teeth have improved, another coincidence as my epilepsy medication has been changed, taken off Lamictal, after 5 years, infamous for tooth decay! A tip for people using Lamictal?

Dentist's 'corporation'
Hi. Not sure you are onthe right forum here. Do you have an MPN ?
Yes I think you have accidentally posted on the wrong forum but either way I think you need to find a new dentist. One who cares more about the patients than profit.
Basic scaling and polishing is included in the NHS payment and should be done by your dentist.
It is the way since going on PIP I have had to pay for the likes of Dentist [and Optician] fees. I used to go to the dentist to check the health of my teeth, because of DLA I was assured of just that. Not a stupid person telling me my health could be improved by buying their dubious dental goods, and 'specialist' diet plans, for which they probably made 'a little earner', I had no choice but to go on this 'plan' and for which I could little afford being on a tighter budget on PIP! My dentist's former attendant was a former girlfriend, had left because of this Hygeniest/Dentist partnership. I have been attending this dentist for many years, and like you said I should change them! If you have such an arrangement with your dentist, be careful, unless you can afford such an 'arrangement'?
