I typically do not have a strong reaction to the flu vaccine; however, when I combined it with the pneumonia vaccine I felt awful. It was like have a very bad case of flu for about 24 hours and both arms hurt. Will not ever combine vaccines moving forward.

Hello Hunter

Thanks for your reply .

I agree . I always have a 2 week gap between jabs .

In my case I just had the flu jab . I am due to have my covid jab at the end of this week but i will postpone it now until I feel completely better .

Do you know which exact flu shot it was? Some are more potent than others. I have a very bad story with mine.

What test is your GP doing? Watch for any neurological symptoms too.

I'm obviously one of the lucky ones, no problem at all with flu jab.

Hi Tortina I have more lung problems than anything but having had my flu jab on Thursday morning I had the most terrible night Thursday night with agonising pain in my back and tummy. It was like trapped wind indigestion pain. Friday I felt terrible all day due to lack of sleep and stomach pains and feeling sick. Today Saturday still not right. I messaged my health centre and I have to speak to the doc about my reaction. My covid jab is due Thursday and I do feel like waiting now a bit longer now for it as do not want to feel like this so soon again? Most people I know including my husband absolutely fine with both injections. I do hate the covid one as Inalways suffer with that but not the flu one? So I do wonder if the doc can throw a light on why?

Hope you feel better soon

Absolutely do wait on the Covid, you do not want a one week spacing esp with that bad reaction. My sad outcome is an example of why waiting two weeks at least, or even same day, is safer than one week.

Hello Mona

Thanks for your reply . That is interesting as the same happened to me without the back pain . I had terrible wind and felt sick .

In fact I felt poorly for 8 days . My symptoms were a really upset tummy , nausea , couldn’t eat and struggled to drink even water . I felt very tired and cold especially at night when I was tired . I also had some headaches . I didn’t actually have any sickness or diaorhea but I felt like I wanted to go to the toilet often at the beginning .

After a few days of barely eating , drinking peppermint tea and sparkling water i started to make myself eat little and often . That seemed to help . I ate cream crackers , plain boiled potatoes and the odd fish finger . Not like me at all .

Ive never had a reaction to a flu jab before so it was really strange . It started 24-48 hours after my jab .

I have delayed my Covid jab now as advised by my consultant haematologist and am having it a good 2 weeks after my recovery …. I just don’t want to feel ill again after that episode .

I hope you are ok and you don’t experience what I did . It was certainly not very pleasant .

Let me know how you get on .

Hi Tortina you have certainly been through it with the reaction to your flu jab but it’s good to know I am not alone!

Everything you have put in your message has been roughly the same as me. I too have never had any reaction to this jab before. I am always poorly with the covid one so expect a day or too poorly after that one but not this one.

I had my excruciating pain about 12 hours after my jab, it was horrible and all I could do was walk up and down most of the night and drink water and pray it would stop, I have now ended up with awful stomach ache. Like you, I just felt I needed to go to the loo so did not have the runs. I have got constipated which is not like me at all?

I reported this reaction to my Health Centre on Friday and they said a doc would ring me today but it was the nurse who did. Basically she said everybody is different and reacts differently blah blah blah!! So no real help at all and I was really surprised she did not even know the injection was cultured in egg shells. The pharmacist asked me if I was allergic to eggs before the injection, which I did know about.

I am on a restricted diet as I have a Hyitas hernia so I know absolutely this is not anything to do with anything I ate.

The nurse did imo,y that maybe I had picked a tummy bug up!! I am 100 per cent sure this is to do with my injection. I still have stomach ache tonight day 4 . It’s miserable isn’t it! I am cancelling my covid on Thursday and will definitely wait now a couple of weeks for my body to recover.

Thank you for your message. Good to know I am not alone and hope you feel much better soon

Golly Mona that is not good . I’m sorry to hear that you have also had a similar experience.

My gp told me to take paracetamol , rest up and eat little and often . That did help . She told me if o got any worse to call back .

Around day 5 I did take paracetamol and tested in bed a lot as I did feel tired and lacked energy . I think it helped .

I would recommend you keep drinking tap water little and often as it’s so important to keep hydrated and it might help your constipation .

I do hope you feel better soon . I must say it makes you think about having another flu jab ! Still will cross that bridge when I come to it .

Sending you my best wishes and I hope you feel better at the end of this week .

Hi Tortina, I had my covid jab last Sunday and I was offered the flu jab as well - one in each arm, so now, after reading this, I think perhaps I was wrong to blame the Moderna covid jab for the flare up of all my musculoskeletal problems.

Perhaps it was the best I could do, or I might have suffered twice in two weeks. I was annoyed that I was given a leaflet when I left the church hall and I think I should have been given it to read before I had the injections. If I knew I was getting Moderna, I would have passed on it. Getting it at the pharmacy instead might mean I would get Pfeizer again, which I have no problem with. I didn't feel well until the fourth day after my injections.

Hello

My consultant at the hospital told me a few people had complained about feeling unwell after the flu jab .

They always advise me to space jabs out 2 weeks apart .

I had the Moderna booster 2 -3 weeks after my flu jab and I was fine . No side effects to bother me but I did feel a bit more tired in the evening after it .

Maybe space your jabs out hext time and see how you get on .

Best wishes

Thanks Tortina, that is helpful information. I don't think the nurse should have offered me the flu jab at the same time. I am nearly 80 and have blood cancer, so I should be considered vulnerable. In fact, I have recently spent a couple of days in hospital after feeling ill. They said I had gall stones but when they tried to find them via various scans, they couldn't, and I have just had to travel to the hospital again for an MRI, Not impressed.

Tortina profile image
Tortina in reply toMaggieSylvie

Oh dear !

Doesn’t sound good . I am a vulnerable person and immunosupressed due to the anti rejection meds I take after a stem cell transplant .

I did have myelofibrosis but am now in remission after the transplant 16 months ago . I’m tend to run everything past the support nurses in the haematology post transplant clinic I attend . They are fantastic ladies and give excellent support working with the consultants at my local hospital .

I hope you feel better soon .

So we're in a similar boat. Actually, I can't say I really feel well. When I get my MRI results, I'll make a GP appointment. I've never had anything wrong with my digestive system, and can't trust so-called consultants. As for jumped up little doctors who inform you they plan to give you extra blood thinners because they don't think the aspirin is doing enough, and come in the next day weilding a huge hyperdermic! Oh and he said he'd "looked up blood cancer", so that made him more of an expert than the patient. I don't think so.

Thank you Tortina and hope you are feeling loads better now? Yes I agree I may think twice about the flu jab.again.I have to book another covid now and dreading that one too!,

Best wishes to you too

Hi Mona

I seem to be fine but got the odd spell of getting a bit queasy ….. probably the meds .

I’ve got my covid jab next Monday so that will be 2 weeks after my recovery and 3 weeks since my flu jab . I’m hoping that will go ok .

Are you completely better now ? Will try and remember to let you know How I get on .

Hi there again I have had a bad tummy for 8/9 days now so will definitely wait until mid November again to have my covid jab.

I did have one this May last so think I must still have a bit of protection surely?

Hope yours goes well and no side affects

Sorry to hear you still have an upset tummy Mona . I was poorly for 8 days .

I had some plain roast chicken breast , plain potatoes and some green beans just before I got better . Whether that helped me I don’t know but i mysteriously felt better after that . .

Sometimes I think I need to force myself to eat a dinner …. Usually a roast one and that seems to help. It’s so easy to get into the habit of feeling queasy and not eating .

I really hope you feel better soon .

I’m having my covid jab tomorrow . Bit nervous about having it but feel I Should have it as it’s 2 weeks now since I felt poorly .

Thanks to your good wishes .

hi Tortina just seen your message posted 4 days ago. What a relief for you no side effects from the COVID jab much. Well I am off today to get mine. ☹️ I booked online and there were no spaces left in my town so I was having to travel 5 miles down the road. Yesterday they rang to say they had run out of the vaccine!! So determined to get it today I have booked it a little way away again at 2.30 this afternoon. Dreading it as I never get away with it! I have not going to be doing anything for the next two days. I don’t work so have that luxury!

Will tell you how it goes and so pleased you didn’t suffer again it’s miserable isn’t it!

Thanks for your reply message

Hi Tortina sorry for a bit of a late reply but guess what I have been poorly after the injection again! The usual side effects, cold and hot and flu like symptoms for about 12 hours and then I could not believe it I had the horrible bloating again in my solar plexus and in my back. That went on for 5 hours through the night despite the Buscapan the nurse told me to get in preparation for the jab. I cannot believe I got that reaction yet again and nothing works at getting it to move. Cold water, hot water, Gaviston and walking about until 2 in the morning! ☹️ I just had to walk about and finally got to sleep for a couple of hours. Only good thing is I did not have the stomach ache we got after our flu jabs. A small compensation though.

Wish I knew what causes this in me. Really do not look forward to my jabs now. Glad you were ok tho and stay well through the winter

Hello Mona

Oh dear poor you .

It’s a good job you didn’t have the jabs together !!

I was fine like I say after mine . However I do remember that after I had recovered from feeling rubbish after my flu jab I had an odd day about 7/10 days later where I had the bloating again . It only lasted one evening and then went . Made me wonder if I still had something in my system affecting me .

Some of my friends did feel ill after their covid jabs but it only lasted 24 hours .

I’m not looking forward to My jabs next year but will still have them as my consultant said I should despite feeling poorly this time .

I hope you feel better now .

Thanks for your good wishes and you take care over the winter as well .

Best wishes
