Anyone going to the MPNVoice extravaganza in London on Friday, which has been fully booked for ages? I am and would be happy to put faces to names. I tried this once before for the larger biennial meeting but failed as ,unlike facebook, this site doesn't advise you of any updates posted on a topic that you have reponded too. (Hope that makes sense) So several people said yes but when I suggested that we could meet, by adding a comment to the original post, no-one got to see it!

Maybe better luck this time.

Posting as a reply as I don’t know how to share to our group.

We now have several of us going to the London forum tomorrow. How do we meet? Let me tell you a story about a time we tried this for the biennial forum 5 years ago…….

Several names signed up as going and wanted to meet. I suggested that we each carry something red, like a folder or badge etc. This worked quite well and several of us met. However, near the end of the day a lady marched up to me and said ‘Are you Chris Harper?’ ‘Yes I am.’ ‘Well if you told us you were going to wear your Where’s Wally shirt we would have found you a lot earlier!’ At which point I realised I had put on a red and white hooped shirt without thinking, but was carrying a red identifying folder. The lovely lady, Celia Bass, and I are still friends!

So tomorrow I will wear my Where’s Wally shirt to act as a lightning rod and you can decide whether you wish to say hello and I might help you hook up with a partner in crime. I will also have my MPNVoice bingo card with all your names on it so I know who I get to meet (so no pressure!).

Can’t recall how much is posted about me but I am a 65 year old male ex MF-er who had a stem cell transplant (SCT) in 2011. I now do buddying for MPNVoice and anyone else I meet on the internet who might have an SCT in their future, to help them understand what they will face. I describe myself as a transsexual transplantee as my stem cell donor was Sarah, now another nice friend! I talk to anyone, even PV-ers and ET-ers!

So please come and say hello. I could walk around and look at everyone’s name badges but these days I could also get a bad name for doing that!

We have

Kiwitraveller – Alison MF

Searcher56 Paivi ET

Mhos61 Mary ET

Susana7 PV

RosemaryHarper (no relation we think!) PV

Melaniem59 ET

Garstongal Ala ET

Mrs_Average Katherine MF

The above are coming tomorrow and I have noted their poison so you know who to compare notes with and will also form part of your breakout group.

Hope I haven’t missed anyone. Perhaps at the end we can do a healthie, bit like a selfie but a picture for an Health unlocked post. 

I’ve unfortunately deleted the email forwarning of a change of conference room within the hospital. I’m thinking from memory that it’s Southwark wing, Atrium 1

Is that correct anyone?

MFBMT2011 profile image
MFBMT2011

Hmm. Was puzzled as saw Atrium 1 but map showed 29th floor. However web site shows

Atrium 1, Ground Floor Southwark Wing, Guy's Hospital, Great Maze Pond, London, SE1 9RT

Reception would know if it changes.

Chris.

Waves shyly to everyone! I had my first appointment with Professor Harrison last week having recently had my diagnosis of ET, triple negative confirmed. I'll be attending on Friday with my husband, Fred. I'm a Maths teacher so will be rushing home from school and jumping on a train from Essex to hopefully get there on time! I'll try to be brave enough to say hello!

Great to have met many of you last night.

Really good to hear everyone's story and to understand how the future medical landscape is evolving. Feeling quite energised 👍

Enjoy the run up to Christmas!

Indeed. Managed to get six noted on my bingo card but didn’t have the opportunity to hunt down the others as ‘meets’ turn into chats, albeit worthwhile ones!
