Well that is very disappointing. You research a specialist, you wait a long time for appointment and then you find you possibly know more than they do. I have found this on many occasions. Good luck on your own research.
Well, this is is a long story. I take NAC daily due to it being included in the anti-inflammatory diet trialed by Dr. Angela Fleischman at UC-Irvine Health. I also take a multi-vitamin out of habit.
I've been trialing various supplements. I'm basically self-experimenting out of extreme frustration over my unremitting fatigue. Before I started, I had all my annual visits to make sure nothing else was out of whack and could be causing the fatigue. Everything was fine except my vitamin-D was low. That was fixed via high-doses over the course of a few weeks. It did not have any effect on the fatigue. So then I moved on supplement by supplement. If you are interested, I can send you a message with everything I've done so far.
I've been monitoring my blood counts via my Primary Care Physician and so far they are the same. Nothing I've done has changed my numbers.
Sorry to hear about the disappointment. My experience with Integrative medicine has been totally different. My providers have been wonderful. At the height of COVID I did have to do one of my appointments via tele-video, which was OK. I definitely agree that telephone appointments are decidedly inferior. There is really no excuse to do appointment that way since tele-video platforms are so widely available and so easy to use. It is far more humanizing to do appointments this way and a significantly more effective way to practice medicine.
I hope you do not give up on Integrative Medicine (or Functional Medicine) as it really can make a huge difference when you get the right provider.
To paraphrase a famous man - "We will never surrender! We will fight on the beaches." Some beaches are in healthcare systems. Agree with NEVER GIVE UP!
I am on also considering integrative med, homeopathy in particular, and live in London. Sorry to hear that your experience was not positive. Not sure where to look for a specialist that is also knowledgeable about MPNs, but will keep trying. I really have to trust them before I commit.
I agree . Need to make sure you feel happy with someone , otherwise no point . Not just about medical knowledge but interaction between you both. Hard to find the person we can trust
Good luck and keep on searching.
I do miss the homeopath I saw for many years . She moved abroad …..
