I am again here with update regarding my visit to dr. For shortness of breathing n chest pain..All of folks advised me to take it seriously bcz that was not ususal ET symptom. Iast night I went in Emergency thinking I am having sime cardiac event or sumthing. Thanks God my ECG came out fine, no cardiac event..Platelets slightly elevated(last time 945...yesterday 1034).thyroids were fine. Liver function test showed elevated liver enzymes. But they say they are not critically high.I am still having same symptoms. Dr.said my liver inflamation cud be bcoz of plavix. But obviously I cant stop taking blood thinners.Your experience n thoughts wud be appreciated on this.hows your liver? Does medication affects that?what u guys do to keep ur liver healthy. I am advised to stay completly away from processed foods for atleast two weeks, after 2 weeks they will do repeat liver test. I filled up my fridge with fruits n vegies, but really not sure how to undo liver damage/inflamation. I am only on plavix, not on any cytoreduction treatment, but still its taking toll on my liver. What about those fellow ET persons who are taking HU, or anagrelide etc..???

Hi, the only thing I can suggest is that your haematologist is involved as soon as possible. Can you contact the haematologist/clinical nurse? It’s no good second guessing this recent event, you need Specialist advice.
Thank you for sharing your blood results. I have ET approx. 12 years, also experience shortness of breath from time to time and pain on the right side of my chest. I have no idea what the cause is. It may be the ET or medication Aprin and Hydrea 500 daily although I doubt I would start to have new symptoms from meds I have been taking for 2 years. I also experienced the most painful bilateral cramps in my shins twice yesterday. It was uncontrollable, lasted for 5 minutes and Horrid. Why now and What caused this? I have been of hydrea for about 2 years. Like you, despite Hydrea my platelet levels monthly are above normal range of 150 to 450.
I hope you get a confirmation for your condition and an acceptable way to treat it. I am intrigued to knowing if it is your liver and whether symptoms of shortness of breath result from this?
Thanks a lot Anna for your reply. I am really sorry to hear about pain in ur legs.I think u definitly shud discus this with ur haemi if they were so intense bcz clotting sometimes went unchecked by taking things a bit light. I am hoping its not serious though.I already discussed with my haemotolists about shortness of breathing thing. But he dismissed it that it cud be bcz of ET. Yes liver inflamation cud cause these symptoms according to him.Now I am working to give healthy n detoxifyinf foods to my liver..and its second day I am already feeling less heaviness in my chest.
Hi. First, I’m very glad you went to the ER so you could be seen right away. I’d recommend that you immediately get ahold of the doctor who put you on Plavix and find out what he or she wants to do. But I would be pushy about being seen soon. I’m also on blood thinners but Eliquis and aspirin. I’ve not had any liver problems yet from them but I don’t know if you have Eliquis there or whether your doctor would consider appropriate for you. Please keep us posted about what happens. Good luck. Katie
I have ET and on both hydroxy (took this for a couple of years) and interferon I too suffer from shortness of breath but no chest pain. Last liver enzymes were high for me also so I have started to take milk thistle. They say to buy one that has high silymarin content, you may need to google it. It has vast benefits and protects the liver, it can also help it to regenerate, good for kidneys as well. I'm having bloods taken in a couple of months so will see if it has done any good 😊
Thanks a lot.Yes I am gona start milk thistle , trying to find out but tomorrow on weekend will go for hunt.....i am already taking turmeric supplement, I hope milk thistle will not interfere with that.
Not as far as I know. Also ensure the turmeric has >95% curcuminoids (excuse spelling) and Meriva or piperine (black pepper) to aid its absorption. Take care using piperine in larger doses as it can enhance toxicity of medications, which in your case will not do your liver any favours. Meriva slightly less efficient but a lot safer. Happy hunting!
Have you had an ultrasound scan of your abdomen? Those LFTs results are a bit raised but not too scary and shouldn't cause shortness of breath. Reassuring to hear your ECG and cardiac bloods were fine. If your LFTs are still up on the repeat sample then hopefully a scan can check your liver and gallbladder and see if you have an enlarged spleen which may be touching on your liver. ( I have PV with splenomegaly and deranged LFTs felt to be linked to spleen touching the liver).
Definitely avoid any alcohol and fatty foods to give your liver a rest and it may be worth getting the bloods done after 1 week to see if they are going up or down then a decision on the plavix can be made. I'd continue with the plavix for now as the liver tests only slightly raised.
Thanks for mesg Heidi. I asked for ultrasoundbof spleen etc, but they said no need.bcz almost 6 months b4 my spleen ultrasound was done and it was fine.hoping for good.
