I’m on Pegasus and aspirin. I had 2 venesections one month apart. Since this second one I haven’t been well. My blood’s are all low normal. May all be a coincident.
Anyone suddenly suffer from vertigo and excess stomach acid? This has now been more than a month.
I’m waiting for a neuro referral.

Hi Eleanor, sorry to hear you’re not well. I’ve had vertigo a couple of times, got tablets from gp which definitely helped. I’m bothered with stomach acid anyway and I’m on omeprazole daily. I can’t take aspirin or other inflammatory meds because they cause stomach pain, acid, indigestion, etc.
Hope you feel better soon. Kindest regards Aime xx😺😺
Thanks Aime. I’ll be fine, once the docs get to the bottom of the cause. Omeprazole helps a little. Also promethazine for the vertigo. Sigh more meds but it’s not all about PV haha.
So sorry you haven’t been well. Just wondering if they are co-incidental. And not even related to each other.
I find that stomach issues are often related to stress. And I understand that vertigo type problems although not caused by stress can be exacerbated by it.
I don’t want to make ‘stress’ (and its relationship to managing an MPN) a catch all but I’m beginning to think that it has more impact both physical and emotional than we sometimes imagine / accept.
Having questioned whether your symptoms are co-incidental - ie not caused by the venesections themselves I also recall that you have said you have struggled with venesections. (Apologies if my recall is incorrect.) Could this be causing some additional anxiety which is manifesting itself in these ways?
Very much hope you get to the bottom of this and find some relief very soon.
Thanks for your reply. Yes I was concerned before my last venesection. It all went fine. This was more than a month ago. I don’t expect another venesection for at least 6 months. It’s just a waiting game to see someone who might know.
Have you had your Ferritin level checked. I am on Peg, take asprin and have had a few venisections. After the last round of venisections I was feeling a bit strange and very rundown. The reason for this was my Ferritin level (Iron) was too low. The good news was I had to eat lots of red meat and spinach to bring it back.
I really feel for you with the vertigo. I get it periodically too and cannot even turn over in bed without vomiting! I too take an antihistamine which seems to help. The last episode of vertigo tanked my blood results too. Perhaps it was viral. I have an appointment with a neurologist next week. I don't know if he will shed any light on it. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes Jan x
My visit to neurologist was not a great deal of help to you I’m afraid. He mostly concentrated on my migraine auras and said vertigo can be viral or caused by small crystals that become misplaced within the ear - which I already knew. I guess my referral was for migraine auras so he wasn’t prepared to answer ?? on vertigo!!
I have had 2 bouts of vertigo first one lasting 6 weeks went to physio and had epley manoeuvre which cured it recently had it again and as everything was in lock down did it myself and got rid of it you can find this on y tube
Dear EleanorPV, the whole process can be very stressful and in my experience it is probably the worry that is the underlying cause of your symptoms. There are some wonderful drugs for excess stomach acid to be taken 'as and when' to prevent the spiral downwards. Hope things improve soon.
No, at times it’s worse than others, I got an appointment with the hospital where they said I’ve lost hearing in both ears, honestly I thought perhaps vertigo and loss of hearing were related. I also suffer from respeated ear infections so I’m not sure which lines cross the other or is it a symptom of any number of things
Hi, Eleanor, we have enough on our plate without added illnesses.
The vertigo I can’t help you with but I used take lanzoprozole every morning. When my meds increased so did the lanzoprozole. I needed to take one at night also. Then I tried just taking one capsule at night. Bingo, it works!
It makes sense too laying down at night aggravates reflux.
Not only that, I’ve been informed that antacids have a negavitive affect on your B12. Something we all have to be aware of.
