Ask your GP to refer you to a migraine specialist. He is right about the rizatriptan - they are excellent, but if you take too many painkillers you can get rebound headaches. Pizotifen is supposed to be a preventative but not sure how well it works - I wouldn't take it because I drive for my job and fit makes you drowsy. There are lots of other preventatives that can be tried. If you can get to the national migraine centre they are excellent, but there is a voluntary fee.

It's in London. Also if you are female and it's the same time in your cycle every month it could be me strap migraine. Here is a link to the guidelines for headache treatment on the NMC website.
