i do not feel suicidal or contemplate suicide does this mean i dont have depression?

No it doesn't sammy. You can still feel very depressed if you are not suicidal. A friend of mine with severe depression didn't. But all she wanted to do was to stay by herself and in bed. I do have suicidal thoughts with mine but everyones different.

I guess you are asking whether you have to be so bad as to feel suicidal in order to be entitled to say you feel awful and need help. Depression comes in different forms, you may express your depression in a different way. I wonder how your depression affects you.
